Musnad ash-Shihab 13 — Regret is repentance
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عُمَرَ التُّجِيبِيُّ، أبنا أَبُو طَاهِرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمَدَنِيُّ، ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى، ثنا سُفْيَانُ هُوَ ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْكَرِيمِ الْجَزَرِيِّ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي زِيَادُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَعْقِلٍ، قَالَ: دَخَلْتُ مَعَ أَبِي عَلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ فَقَالَ لَهُ: إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «النَّدَمُ تَوْبَةٌ»
Abdullah bin Ma’qil (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I was present with my father in the company of Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him), so he said to them: Indeed, I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: “Remorse is repentance.”
