It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we set out with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) towards Makkah Mukarramah with the intention of Hajj only. Sayyidah Aisha put on the Ihram for Umrah. When we reached the place of Sarif, her menstrual period began. When we reached Makkah Mukarramah, we performed the Tawaf of the Ka'bah, performed Sa'i between Safa and Marwah, and those among us who did not have a sacrificial animal, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered them to come out of Ihram. We asked about the nature of coming out of Ihram, so he said: Become completely halal (lawful). Thus, we went to our wives, applied perfume, while there were only four nights left between us and Arafah. Then, on the eighth of Dhul-Hijjah, we put on the Ihram for Hajj. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to Sayyidah Aisha, and she was crying. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked her the reason for crying, so she said: I am crying because everyone has come out of Ihram, but I have not been able to do so yet. People have performed Tawaf, but I have not been able to do so yet, and the days of Hajj are upon us. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: This is something that Allah has written for the daughters of Adam, so you should perform Ghusl, put on the Ihram for Hajj, and perform Hajj. So she did so, and after being free from her excuse, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to her: Perform the Tawaf of the House (Ka'bah) and Sa'i between Safa and Marwah, thus you will be free from the restrictions of Ihram for your Hajj and Umrah. She said: O Messenger of Allah! There will always be a feeling in my heart that I did not perform any Tawaf until Hajj. Upon this, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to her brother Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him): Take her and let her perform Umrah from Tan'eem. This was the night of Hasbah.
