It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered a garden of Banu Najjar. There, he heard the voices of some people who had died during the time of ignorance and were being punished in their graves. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became anxious and left from there, and he instructed the companions to seek refuge from the punishment of the grave.

Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! His debt is upon me." Upon this, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) performed his funeral prayer. Then, when Allah opened the doors of conquest for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), he announced, "I have more right over every Muslim than his own self. Therefore, whoever dies in debt, it is upon me, and whoever leaves wealth, it is for his heirs."

That she-camel would come from this path and leave from that path, but the people of Thamud disobeyed the command of their Lord and hamstrung her. Although that she-camel would drink the water of one day, and on the other day they would drink her milk. But when they hamstrung her, a heavenly cry seized them, and under the shadow of the sky not a single person remained alive except the man who was in the Sacred Sanctuary (Haram). Someone asked: 'O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who was he?' The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'He was Abu Righal. When he left the Haram, the same punishment befell him that had come upon his people.'"

After the prayer, he addressed the people, and when he finished, he descended from the pulpit and went to the women and gave them advice and admonition. During this, he was leaning on the hand of Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) had spread out his cloth, and the women were putting their charity into it, until some women even put their earrings in it.

One row stood facing the enemy and one row stood behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He led those behind him in one rak‘ah with one bowing and two prostrations. Then these people moved forward and stood in the place of their companions, and those people came here and stood in their place. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also led them in one rak‘ah with one bowing and two prostrations, and then he concluded the prayer with salam. In this way, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) completed two rak‘ahs, and each of those people (in following the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him) performed one rak‘ah.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Ansar have done well by naming after my name, so name after my name, but do not take my kunyah (patronymic) as your kunyah.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once an Ansari came for prayer, and with him were his two water-carrying camels. The sun had set, and Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal was leading the Maghrib prayer. He (the Ansari) also joined the prayer. Meanwhile, Sayyiduna Mu'adh began reciting Surah Al-Baqarah or Surah An-Nisa. Seeing this, the man completed his own prayer and left. Later, he found out that Sayyiduna Mu'adh had said something about him. He went and mentioned this to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him twice: "Mu'adh, do you want to put people to trial? Why do you not recite Surah Al-A'la and Surah Ash-Shams? For behind you are elderly, needy, and weak people."
