Be just." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Wretched one! If I do not act justly, then who will?" Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! Allow me to strike his neck?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Leave him, he has some companions; you will consider your prayers insignificant compared to their prayers, and your fasts insignificant compared to their fasts, but they will go out of the religion just as an arrow passes through the prey. A man takes his arrow, looks at its tip and finds nothing, then looks at its sinew and finds nothing, then looks at its shaft and finds nothing, then looks at its feathers and finds nothing. Among them will be a black man, on one of whose hands will be a mark like a woman's breast or like a chewed piece of flesh. These people will appear at the time of division among the people, and regarding them this verse was revealed: 'Among them are those who find fault with you concerning the (distribution of) charities.' Hazrat Abu Saeed (may Allah be pleased with him) says, "I bear witness that I heard this hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and I also bear witness that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) fought against these people, and I was with him, and a man with the same description as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had mentioned was brought."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that we participated with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the battles of Fadak and Khyber. Allah granted victory to His Messenger on both occasions. The people ate garlic and onions in abundance. When it was time for prayer and they gathered in the mosque near the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he was troubled by their smell. When the people ate it again, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not eat it. Whoever eats from it should not come near our gathering. Similarly, on the occasion of the battle of Khyber, people also obtained the meat of domesticated donkeys and put pots on the fire, and my pot was among them. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was informed of this, he said twice: I forbid you from this. Upon this, all the pots were overturned, and my pot was among them.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: On the day of Friday, there comes such an hour that if a Muslim servant attains it while he is standing and offering prayer and asking Allah for goodness, then Allah surely grants him that thing. And Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) indicated with his hand while describing the brief state of that hour. When Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, I thought in my heart, "By Allah! If I go to Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), I will surely ask him about this hour; perhaps he knows about it." So, once I went to him and saw that he was straightening sticks. I asked him, "O Abu Saeed! What are these sticks that I see you straightening?" He replied, "These are the sticks in which Allah has placed blessings for us. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to like them and would keep them hidden. We would straighten them and bring them to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Once, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw spit on the Qiblah side of the mosque. At that time, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had one of these sticks in his hand. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cleaned it with that stick and said: When any of you is in prayer, he should not spit in front of him, for his Lord is in front of him; rather, he should spit to his left or under his foot." Then, that very night, there was a heavy rain. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out for the Isha prayer, suddenly there was a flash of lightning, and in it, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw Hazrat Qatadah bin Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "Qatadah! What was the need to come at this hour of the night (in this rain)?" He replied, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I knew that very few people would come for the prayer today, so I thought I should join the prayer." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "When you have finished praying, stop until I pass by you." So, after finishing the prayer, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave Hazrat Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) a stick and said, "Take this; it will give you light ten steps ahead and ten steps behind. Then, when you enter your house and see the shadow of a person in any corner, before he speaks, strike him with this stick, for he will be a devil." So he did as instructed, and for this reason, we like these sticks. I asked, "O Abu Saeed! Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated to us a hadith regarding the hour of Friday. Do you know about this hour?" He replied, "I had asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about this hour, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'At first, that hour was shown to me, but then it was made to be forgotten, just like Laylatul Qadr.'" Abu Salamah says: Then I left from there and went to Hazrat Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him).

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) arrived in Madinah Munawwarah, we used to inform the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about people who were near death. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would go to them, supplicate for their forgiveness, and remain seated with them until they passed away, which sometimes took a very long time and caused hardship for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Eventually, we thought that it would be easier for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) if we did not inform him before someone died. Thus, after that, we adopted the practice that when any one of us passed away, only then would we inform the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would come to the family of the deceased, supplicate for their forgiveness, and lead their funeral prayer. Then, if he deemed it appropriate to stay, he would stay; otherwise, he would return. For some time, we continued to act upon this second practice. Then we thought that it would be easier for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) if we brought the funeral near the house of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) without specifying or identifying it. So, we started doing this, and this practice has continued up to now.
