Musnad Ahmad

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led two rak'ahs (units of prayer) on the occasion of a solar eclipse.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a gold ring in the hand of a companion (may Allah be pleased with him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned his face away from him. He threw it away and made an iron ring. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is even worse than that; this is the adornment of the people of Hell." He threw that away and made a silver ring. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent at this.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, that I heard the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, saying: "There is no one more truthful on the face of the earth and under the shade of the sky than Abu Dharr, may Allah be pleased with him."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were sitting with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). My father, Sayyiduna Amr bin Al-Aas (may Allah be pleased with him), had gone to put on his clothes so that he could join me later. In the meantime, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Soon a cursed man will come to you." By Allah, my heart kept pounding continuously and I kept looking inside and outside equally (fearing that it might be my father), until Al-Hakam entered the mosque (he was the one meant).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "When you see my Ummah fearing to call a tyrant a tyrant, then (the life of the conscience or the acceptance of prayers) has departed from them." And the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "In my Ummah also, there will be punishment of being swallowed by the earth, transformation of faces, and rain of stones."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever is killed while protecting his wealth is a martyr."

Masruq (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once I was sitting with Sayyiduna Ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him). He began mentioning Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "He is such a man whom I will always love. I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Learn the Qur'an from four people,' and he mentioned Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) first, then Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him), then Sayyiduna Abu Hudhaifah's freed slave Salim (may Allah be pleased with him). The narrator says: I forgot the fourth name."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The womb (ties of kinship) is suspended with the Throne. The one who only reciprocates is not truly upholding the ties of kinship; the true upholder of kinship is the one who maintains relations even when others sever them."

Sayyida Umm Salamah’s freed slave “Na’im” says that once I performed Hajj with Sayyiduna Ibn Amr. When we were on a certain road in Makkah Mukarramah, he deliberately and intentionally fixed his gaze on something. When that thing became clear, which was a tree, he came and sat under it and said: I saw the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sitting under this very tree. At that time, a man came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) from that direction, greeted him, and said: O Messenger of Allah! I want to go with you for jihad, and my only purpose is to attain Allah’s pleasure and a place in the Hereafter. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: Are either of your parents alive? He replied: Yes, both are alive. He said: “Go and treat your parents well.” So he went back to where he had come from.

Abu Hayyan narrates from his father that once Sayyiduna Ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) met. After a short while, when Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) returned, he was crying. People asked him, "O Abu Abdur Rahman, why are you crying?" He replied: "Because of the hadith that he narrated to me, that I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: That person will not enter Paradise in whose heart there is even a mustard seed's weight of arrogance."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The one who fasts continuously has not truly fasted."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Wash the limbs of wudu thoroughly and completely."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "One of the major sins is that a man abuses his parents." The people asked, "O Messenger of Allah! How can a man abuse his own parents?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He abuses another man's father, and that man in return abuses his father; and he abuses another man's mother, and that man in return abuses his mother."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "It is not permissible for a wealthy person or for a strong and able-bodied (healthy and robust) person to take zakat."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Near the Day of Judgment, the sun will rise from the west and the emergence of the Beast of the Earth will occur at forenoon. Whichever of these two signs appears first, the other will soon follow. However, I think that the rising of the sun from the west is the first sign as declared by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed both the one who takes and the one who gives a bribe.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The blood money for someone killed by mistake with a whip or a stick is one hundred camels, among which there will be forty pregnant she-camels."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The most beloved way of fasting to Allah is the way of Sayyiduna Dawud (peace be upon him), and likewise, his prayer is the most beloved to Allah. He would sleep for half the night, stand (in prayer) for a third of the night, and then rest for a sixth of the night. Similarly, he would fast one day and leave fasting the next day."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever recites the Qur'an in less than three days has not understood it."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "When he saw clothes dyed with safflower on my body, he said: 'This is the dress of the disbelievers, take it off.'"

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "No one who reminds others of his favors, and no habitual drunkard, will enter Paradise."

Hanzala bin Khulaid says that once I was sitting with Sayyiduna Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) when two men came to him with a dispute. Each of them claimed that he had martyred Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "You should congratulate each other, for I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say that Ammar will be killed by a rebellious group." Sayyiduna Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Then what are you doing with us?" He replied: "Once my father complained about me to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Obey your father throughout your life, do not disobey him.' That is why I am with you, but I do not participate in the fighting."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that some people who exerted themselves greatly in worship were mentioned before the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "These are the froth of Islam, and every froth has a burst of speed, and every burst of speed comes to an end. If the end and cessation of that speed is upon moderation and the Sunnah, then the objective is achieved. But if its end is towards disobedience and sins, then that person is destroyed."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, mentioned some people who used to strive greatly in worship. The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "These are the froth of Islam, and every froth has a burst of speed, and every burst of speed comes to an end. If the end and cessation of that burst is upon moderation and the Sunnah, then the objective is achieved; and if its end is towards disobedience and sins, then that person is destroyed."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, that once the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said while on the pulpit: "Show mercy, you will be shown mercy; forgive, you will be forgiven. Destruction is for those who only possess the weapon of words. Destruction is for those who knowingly persist and remain steadfast in their sins."

The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The person whom Allah Almighty dislikes the most is the one who keeps moving his tongue like a cow chews cud."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, that a man came to the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, seeking permission to participate in jihad. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, asked him, "Are your parents alive?" He replied, "Yes." The Prophet said, "Then go and strive in service to them."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to me: "If you fast one day, you will receive the reward of ten." I requested an increase in this, so he said: "If you fast two days, you will receive the reward of nine." I requested further increase, so he said: "If you fast three days, you will receive the reward of eight."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that I once submitted in the presence of the Messenger of Allah, "O Messenger of Allah! In how many days should I recite the Qur'an?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "In one month." I said, "I have the strength for more than that." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Recite it in twenty-five days." I said, "I have the strength for more than that." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Recite it in twenty days." I said, "I have the strength for more than that." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Recite it in fifteen days." I said, "I have the strength for more than that." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Recite it in ten days." I said, "I have the strength for more than that." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Recite it in seven days." I said, "I have the strength for more than that." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever recites the Qur'an in less than three days has not understood it."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah has declared wine, gambling, barley wine, chess, and musical instruments forbidden for my Ummah, and He has added the Witr prayer for me."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I was with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Sayyiduna Siddiq Akbar (may Allah be pleased with him) came and sought permission to enter. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Grant him permission and give him the glad tidings of Paradise." Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came and sought permission to enter. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Grant him permission and give him the glad tidings of Paradise." I asked, "Where do I stand?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You will be with your father."

Sayyiduna Ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I never saw the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) eating while reclining, nor did I see two men walking behind him.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever kills even a sparrow unjustly, Allah Almighty will question him about it on the Day of Resurrection."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever kills even a sparrow unjustly, Allah Almighty will question him about it on the Day of Resurrection." Someone asked, "O Messenger of Allah! What is its right?" He said: "He should slaughter it, not seize it by the neck so as to break it."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The blood money (diyah) for one who is killed by mistake with a whip or a stick is one hundred camels, among which there will be forty pregnant she-camels."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever drinks alcohol, flog him. If he drinks again, then flog him again. If he drinks a third time, then flog him again. And on the fourth occasion, he said: 'Kill him.'"

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) that when they lie down on their bed, they should say Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, and Allahu Akbar one hundred times (the narrator forgot which of these should be said thirty-four times). Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that since that time, I have never abandoned this practice. Ibn Kawwa asked, "Not even on the night of the Battle of Siffin?" He replied, "Yes! Not even on the night of the Battle of Siffin did I abandon it."

Yaqub bin Asim says that a man asked Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him), "Do you say that the Day of Judgment will be established in this way?" He replied: "I wish you would not narrate anything. I had said that after some time you will see a great incident, a fire breaking out in the House of Allah (the Ka'bah)." Then he said: "The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'The Dajjal will emerge among my Ummah and will remain for forty (the narrator does not remember whether it was days, years, or months). Then Allah, the Exalted, will send Sayyiduna Isa (peace be upon him), who will resemble Sayyiduna Urwah bin Mas'ud Thaqafi (may Allah be pleased with him). He will search for him and kill him. After that, people will live for seven years in such a way that there will be no enmity between any two people. Then Allah, the Exalted, will send a cool wind from the direction of Syria, and that wind will seize the soul of every person who has even a mustard seed's weight of faith in his heart. Even if any of them hides in the heart of a mountain, that wind will reach him there as well. After that, only the worst people will remain on the earth, who will be more numerous than birds and animals, who will not recognize good as good and evil as evil. Satan will come to them in human form and say to them, 'Why do you not accept my invitation?' and will command them to worship idols. Thus, they will begin to worship them. During this time, their sustenance will increase greatly and their lives will be passing in the best way, when suddenly the Trumpet will be blown. Whoever hears its sound will bend to one side. The first to hear its sound will be the person who will be repairing the edge of his pond, and he will fall down unconscious. Then everyone will become unconscious. After that, Allah, the Exalted, will send down a heavy rain from the sky, from which people's bodies will grow. Then the Trumpet will be blown again, and people will stand up and will be seeing with their eyes. After that, it will be said, 'O people! Proceed to your Lord,' and when they reach there, they will be stopped and questioned. Then it will be commanded that the army of Hell be taken out from among them. It will be asked, 'How many people?' The command will be, 'Out of every thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine.' That will be the day when children will become old and when the shin will be uncovered."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever from my Ummah wears gold and dies in that state, Allah will make the gold of Paradise forbidden for him. And whoever from my Ummah wears silk and dies in that state, Allah will make the silk of Paradise forbidden for him."
