Hadith 602
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that I was present in the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when the two Shaykhs (may Allah be pleased with them both) were seen coming from the front. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Ali! These two are the leaders of all the elders and youths of Paradise, except for the Prophets and Messengers."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that when I intended to send a marriage proposal for the daughter of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), I thought to myself that I have nothing, so how will this happen? Then I remembered the kindness and compassion of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), so I sent the marriage proposal. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Do you have anything?" I replied, "No!" He said, "What happened to that coat of mail of Hatimiyyah which I gave you on such and such day?" I replied, "That is with me." He said, "Then give that." So I brought it and gave it to him.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that once Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with a request for a servant. So I asked Sayyiduna Miqdad (may Allah be pleased with him) to ask the Prophet (peace be upon him) about this issue. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I used to present myself before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) twice every morning and evening. If I wanted to enter the house of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and he was praying, I would cough. Once, I came at night, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you know what happened tonight? I was praying when I sensed some movement in the house. I became anxious and went outside, and there was Jibreel (peace be upon him) standing. He said: 'My whole night has passed waiting for you. Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila says that once Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) came to visit Sayyiduna Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) for his illness. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: Have you come with the intention of visiting the sick or to express happiness over his illness? He replied: I have come with the intention of visiting the sick. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If you have truly come with the intention of visiting the sick, then I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: When a person visits his Muslim brother who is ill, he walks in the gardens of Paradise until he sits down. When he sits, Allah’s mercy covers him. Then, if he goes in the morning, seventy thousand angels pray for his forgiveness until the evening, and if he goes in the evening, they pray for him until the morning.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood in the plain of Arafat during the Farewell Pilgrimage and said: "This is the place of standing, and the whole of Arafah is the place of standing." Then after sunset, he departed, seated Sayyiduna Usamah (may Allah be pleased with him) behind him, and increased the pace of his mount. People began to rush to the right and left, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) turned towards them and said: "O people! Adopt calmness and tranquility." Then when he reached Muzdalifah, he combined the Maghrib and Isha prayers and stayed there the whole night. In the morning, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to Mount Qazah, stood there, and said: "This is the place of standing, and the whole of Muzdalifah is the place of standing." Then, while walking, he reached the valley of Muhassir, stopped there for a moment, then made his she-camel run swiftly until he had crossed that valley (because it was a place of punishment). Then he stopped his mount, seated Sayyiduna Fadl (may Allah be pleased with him) behind him, and while walking reached Mina, came to Jamrat al-Aqabah and pelted it with pebbles. Then he went to the place of sacrifice and said: "This is the place of sacrifice, and the whole of Mina is the place of sacrifice." Then the narrator mentioned the complete hadith.

Ibrahim Taimi narrates from his father that once Sayyiduna Ali Murtaza (may Allah be pleased with him) while delivering a sermon said: Whoever thinks that we have anything besides the Book of Allah and this scroll in which are written the ages of camels and some details about wounds, which we read, then he is a liar. In this scroll it is also written that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "From 'Ir to Thawr, Madinah Munawwarah is a sanctuary. Whoever introduces an innovation in it or gives refuge to an innovator, upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people. On the Day of Resurrection, Allah will not accept any obligatory or voluntary act of worship from him. And whoever attributes himself to someone other than his father (calls someone else his father), or any slave calls someone other than his master his master, upon him is also the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people. On the Day of Resurrection, Allah will not accept any obligatory or voluntary act from him either. And the responsibility of all Muslims is the same; if an ordinary person grants protection to someone, it must be respected."

I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Near the Day of Judgment, there will emerge such people whose age will be young and whose intellect will be foolish. They will speak the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), but faith will not go beyond their throats. Wherever you find them, kill them, for killing them will be a source of reward on the Day of Judgment.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that one day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting, and in his blessed hand was a stick with which he was scratching the ground. After a short while, he raised his head and said: "The abode of every one of you, whether in Paradise or Hell, is already known and determined by Allah." The noble companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked: "O Messenger of Allah! Then why should we act?" He said: "Continue to act, for each person will find it easy to do the deeds for which he was created." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse of the Qur'an: "So as for he who gives, fears Allah, and affirms the best (truth), We will ease him toward ease. It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent out an army and appointed an Ansari as their commander. When they set out, that Ansari became angry with them over something and said to them, "Gather firewood." After that, he had a fire lit in the wood and said, "I make you swear that you must enter this fire." The people were just considering jumping into it when a young man said, "It was from this very fire that you fled and sought refuge with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Do not be hasty; first go and ask the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). If he commands you to jump into it, then certainly do so." So the people stopped and, upon returning, told the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) the whole incident. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "If you had entered it once, you would never have come out of it. Remember! Obedience is only in matters of goodness."
Hadith 623
Waqid bin Amr says that I was present at a funeral of someone from Banu Salamah. When I saw the funeral, I stood up. Nafi’ bin Jubair said to me, “Sit down, I will tell you something strong regarding this matter. Mas’ud bin Hakam told me that he heard Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) in the courtyard of the Kufa mosque saying that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to order us to stand upon seeing a funeral, but later he himself started sitting and ordered us to sit as well.”

Abu Sasan Raqashi says that some people from Kufa came to the service of Sayyiduna Uthman Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him) and they informed Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) about some news regarding Walid's drinking of alcohol. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) also spoke to them about this matter, so Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him, "Your cousin is in your charge, you carry out the punishment on him." He said to Sayyiduna Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him), "Hasan! Stand up and lash him." He said, "You cannot do this work, assign it to someone else." He said, "Actually, you have become weak and helpless, so Abdullah bin Ja'far! You stand up and carry out the punishment on him." Thus, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) kept lashing him and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) kept counting. When forty lashes were completed, Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Stop now. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave forty lashes to the one who drank alcohol, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) also gave forty lashes, but Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) gave eighty lashes, and both are Sunnah."

Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that once Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) came to my house. He asked for water for ablution. We brought him a bowl in which there was about a mudd or close to it of water, and placed it before him. At that time, he had finished relieving himself. He said to me: O Ibn Abbas! Shall I not show you how the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution? I said: Why not? May my parents be sacrificed for you. So, a vessel was placed for his ablution. First, he washed both hands, rinsed his mouth, put water into his nose and cleaned it, then took water in both hands and wiped it over his face, and with his thumb, he put water on the front part of his ears, and did this three times. Then, with his right hand, he took a handful of water and poured it on his forehead so that it would flow over his face. Then he washed his right arm up to and including the elbow three times, and washed his left arm in the same way, wiped his head and ears, then took water in both hands and poured it over his feet, while he was wearing shoes. Then he moved the shoe and did the same with the other foot. I asked: Is ablution valid while wearing shoes? He replied: Yes, it is valid. This question and answer happened three times.
