Musnad Ahmad

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not name your children Aflah, Najeeh (successful), Yasar (ease), and Rabah (profit), because when you call out their names and ask if they are here, people will say, "No, he is not here."

Hazrat Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) once said during a sermon that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not be deceived by Bilal’s call to prayer or this whiteness until the true dawn appears.

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite "Sabbihisma Rabbikal A'la" and "Hal Ataka Hadithul Ghashiyah" in the Eid prayers.

Hazrat Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would observe silence twice during the prayer. Hazrat Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) said that he did not remember this regarding the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Both of them wrote a letter to Hazrat Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) in this regard, in which they asked him about this issue. Hazrat Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) replied in writing that Samurah had remembered correctly.

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once someone asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "What is meant by 'Salat al-Wusta'?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "The Asr prayer."

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Every boy is held in pledge for his 'aqiqah, so sacrifice should be offered for him on the seventh day, his name should be given on that day, and his head should be shaved.

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Umra is permissible for the person for whom it is made."

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If a woman is married by two guardians at different places, she will belong to the one who did it first, and when someone sells the same thing to two different men, it will belong to the one who bought it first.

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whatever one hand takes from another, it remains a responsibility upon him until he returns it (to the giver).

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever misses a Friday (prayer) without excuse, he should give one dinar in charity; if he cannot find one dinar, then he should give half a dinar in charity.

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The neighbor of the house has more right to that house than others.

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever performs ablution on the day of Jumu'ah, it is sufficient, and whoever takes a bath, that is more virtuous.

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If a woman is married by two guardians at different places, she will belong to the one who did it first, and when someone sells the same thing to two different men, it will belong to the one who bought it first.

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of rain during the Battle of Hunain, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed the people to pray in their tents.

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: Woman has been created from a rib; if you try to straighten the rib, you will break it, so live with her as she is.

Hazrat Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), after offering the Fajr prayer, would turn towards us and ask, "Did any of you see a dream last night?" If anyone had seen a dream, he would present it, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would interpret it according to Allah's will. Thus, as per routine, one day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked us, "Did any of you see a dream?" We replied, "No." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I saw a dream last night in which two men came to me and, holding my hand, took me towards the pure land (Bayt al-Maqdis). There, a man was sitting and another man was standing, who had an iron hook in his hand. The standing man would put the hook into the mouth of the sitting man and tear his jaw from one side up to the back of his neck, and then he would do the same to the other jaw, tearing it up to the back of his neck. Meanwhile, the first jaw would become whole again, and he would repeat the process. I asked, 'What is this?' The two men said, 'Move on.' We moved on and reached a place where a man was lying on his back and another man was standing over his head with a stone, crushing his head with the stone. When he struck his head with the stone, the stone would roll away, and the man would go to retrieve it. Meanwhile, the head would become whole again, and the man would return and strike him again. I asked, 'Who is this?' The two men said, 'Move on.' We moved on and saw a pit like a tannur (oven), its mouth narrow and inside it was wide. Naked men and women were inside it, and a fire was burning in it. When the fire would reach the edges (of the oven), the people would rise up and almost come out, and when the fire subsided, they would fall back inside. I asked, 'Who are these people?' The two men said, 'Move on.' We moved on and reached a river of blood, in which a man was standing, and on the bank of the river was another man with stones in front of him. Whenever the man inside tried to come out, the man on the bank would throw a stone at his mouth and push him back to his original place. Again, the man inside would try to come out, and the man on the bank would throw a stone at his mouth and push him back to his original place. I asked, 'Who is this?' The two men said, 'Move on.' We moved on. At one place, we saw an old man at the root of a tree and some boys were present, and near the tree was another man with a fire in front of him, and he was kindling the fire. My two companions took me up the tree and entered a house, better and more excellent than any house I had ever seen. Inside the house were men and women, old and young, and children as well. After that, my two companions took me out of the house and up the tree, and I reached a city whose construction was such that one brick was of gold and one brick was of silver. We reached the door and knocked; the door was opened and we entered. We met people whose one half was extremely beautiful and the other half was extremely ugly. The two men said to them, 'Go and bathe in that river.' There was a small river flowing, its water extremely white. They went and bathed in it, and when they returned, their ugliness had disappeared and they had become extremely beautiful. Then the two men said to me, 'This is the Garden of Eden, and that is your abode.' I looked up and saw a white palace. I said to them, 'May Allah bless you both, let me enter it.' They said, 'Not yet, but you will surely enter it.' I said, 'You have made me travel all night, now explain to me what I have seen.' They said, 'Alright, we will tell you.' The person whose cheeks you saw being torn was a liar who would fabricate lies and spread them among people, and people would learn from him and spread them further until the lie became widespread throughout the world. He will be punished like this until the Day of Judgment. The person whose head you saw being crushed was one whom Allah had given knowledge of the Qur'an, but he was neglectful of the obligatory prayer, sleeping at night and not acting upon it during the day. He will be punished like this until the Day of Judgment. And those people whom you saw in the pit...

Abu Abd al-Rahman said: My father said: I heard from ‘Abbad ibn ‘Abbad narrating it, from ‘Awf, from Abu Raja’, from Samurah, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: "Then the stone rolls down here." My father said: So I began to marvel at the eloquence of ‘Abbad.

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I was present in the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had called a cupper, who came with his horn. He applied the horn to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and made an incision with a lancet. Meanwhile, a villager from Banu Fazarah, who was associated with Banu Jadhimah, also arrived. When he saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) having cupping done, and since he knew nothing about cupping, he said, "O Messenger of Allah! What is this? Why have you allowed him to cut your skin?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "This is called 'hijamah' (cupping)." He asked, "What is hijamah?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "The best method of treatment by which people seek cure."

Hazrat Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) once said during a sermon that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not be deceived by Bilal's call to prayer and this whiteness until the true dawn appears, because Bilal's eyesight is somewhat weak."

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The part of the lower garment which hangs below the ankles will burn in the fire of Hell.

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sam is the ancestor of the Arabs, Ham is the ancestor of the Abyssinians, and Yafith is the ancestor of the Romans.

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sam is the ancestor of the Arabs, Ham is the ancestor of the Abyssinians, and Yafith is the ancestor of the Romans.

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: On the night of Mi'raj, I saw a man who was swimming in a river and stones were being fed into his mouth. I asked about him, and I was told that he is a usurer (one who consumes interest).

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Lineage means wealth and property, and nobility means piety."

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Among the people of Hell, there will be some who will be engulfed by fire up to their ankles, some up to their knees, some up to their hips, and some will be engulfed up to their collarbones.

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever kills his slave, we will kill him, and whoever cuts off his slave's nose, we will cut off his nose.

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Wear white clothes and shroud your dead in them.

Zaid bin Aqbah Fazari, may Allah have mercy on him, says that once I went to Hajjaj bin Yusuf and said to him, "May Allah reform the Amir, shall I not narrate to you the hadith which Samurah bin Jundub, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated to me from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him?" He said, "Why not?" Zaid said, "I heard him say that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: 'To extend one's hand in front of someone (to beg) is a wound and a brand with which a person brands his own face. Now, whoever wishes, let him leave it on his face, and whoever wishes, let him leave it. Except that a person asks from someone who is in authority, or he asks in a matter in which there is no other way out.'"

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: The most beloved words to Allah are four: La ilaha illallah, Allahu Akbar, Subhan Allah, and Alhamdulillah. You may begin with any of them, there is no harm in it. And do not name your children Aflah (successful), Najeeh (prosperous), Yasar (ease), or Rabah (profit), because when you call out their names and ask if they are here, people will say, "He is not here." These are four things; do not add anything to them.

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Among the people of Hell, there will be some who will be engulfed by the fire up to their ankles, some up to their knees, some up to their hips, and some will be engulfed up to their collarbones.

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Whoever finds his own goods with a person whom the government has declared bankrupt, he has a greater right to them.

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The deceased is punished because of the lamentation that is done over him.

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to be moderate in sitting and not to sit with restlessness.

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Attend the Friday prayer and stay close to the Imam, for a person who keeps staying behind from Jumu'ah keeps staying behind from Paradise, even though he is deserving of it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever performs the Fajr prayer comes under the protection of Allah, so do not take Allah’s protection lightly.

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sam is the ancestor of the Arabs, Ham is the ancestor of the Abyssinians, and Yafith is the ancestor of the Romans.

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade that a person should send his proposal of marriage over the proposal of his brother, or sell over his sale.

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If a woman is married by two guardians at different places, then she will belong to the one who did it first, and whoever buys the same thing from two different men, then it will belong to the one who bought it first.

It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When Hazrat Hawwa (peace be upon her) became pregnant, Satan came to her. None of her children would survive. Satan said to her: Name your child ‘Abdul Harith’ and he will live. So she named her child ‘Abdul Harith’ and he survived. This happened due to the whispering and suggestion of Satan.
