Musnad Ahmad

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever gives a gift to someone, such as silver or gold, or gives someone milk to drink, or gives someone a water-skin, it is as if he has freed a slave.

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was wearing a red garment. I have not seen anyone among all creation more beautiful than him in that garment, peace and blessings be upon him, and his hair reached his shoulders.

Ubaid bin Firoz (may Allah have mercy on him) asked Hazrat Bara (may Allah be pleased with him) which kind of animal the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade for sacrifice and which he considered disliked? He replied that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Four kinds of animals are not sufficient for sacrifice: the one-eyed animal whose defect is obvious, the sick animal whose sickness is obvious, the lame animal whose lameness is obvious, and the animal whose bone is broken and its marrow has come out. Ubaid said: I consider it disliked to sacrifice an animal with a defect in its horn, ear, or tooth. He replied: Leave what you consider disliked, but do not declare it forbidden for anyone else.

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that a silk cloth was presented to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). People began to marvel at its beauty and softness. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: In Paradise, the handkerchiefs of Sa’d bin Mu’adh are much softer than this.

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara' (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I participated in fifteen battles."

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the occasion of the Battle of Khaybar, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by us while we were cooking food. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "What is in these pots?" We replied, "Donkeys that we had caught." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "Wild or domesticated?" We replied, "Domesticated." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Turn over the pots."

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that we reached Hudaybiyyah, which was a well, and its water had become very little. We were fourteen hundred people. A bucket was drawn from it. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) took water with his blessed hand, rinsed his mouth, and poured the water of the rinse into the well itself and made supplication. And we became well satiated with that water.

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to sleep, he would make his right hand a pillow and recite this supplication: O Allah! On the day You gather Your servants, protect me from Your punishment.

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that initially this verse was revealed: “Guard strictly your prayers, especially the Asr prayer,” and we continued to recite it during the blessed era of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as long as Allah willed, and Allah did not abrogate it. Later, instead of “Asr prayer,” the words “the middle prayer” were revealed. A man asked Hazrat Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him), “Does this mean that by ‘the middle prayer’ is meant the Asr prayer?” He replied, “I have told you how it was revealed and how it was abrogated; now Allah knows best.”

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that he saw the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raising his hands at the beginning of the prayer, and at that time the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) thumbs were in line with his earlobes.

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that a person asked the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) which animal should be avoided for sacrifice? My hand is smaller than the hand of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Four animals are not sufficient for sacrifice: the one-eyed animal whose defect is obvious, the sick animal whose sickness is obvious, the lame animal whose lameness is obvious, and the animal whose bone is broken and its marrow has come out.

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by some Ansar companions and said: If you have no choice but to sit by the roadside, then spread greetings of peace, help the oppressed, and guide the way. The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked about "kalalah." The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The verse revealed to you in the summer is sufficient for this matter (referring to the last verse of Surah An-Nisa).

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Hazrat Hassan bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him): Satirize the polytheists, Gabriel is with you.

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that the initial verse of the Holy Qur’an was revealed: “Those among the Muslims who sit back (without participating in jihad) and those who strive in the way of Allah are not equal.” The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called Hazrat Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) and instructed him; he brought a shoulder blade and wrote this verse on it. Upon this, Hazrat Ibn Umm Maktum (may Allah be pleased with him) complained about his blindness, so the words “except those who have a disability” were additionally revealed in this verse.

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed an Ansari that when he comes to his bed, he should say: O Allah, I have submitted myself to You, turned my face towards You, entrusted my affairs to You, and relied on You alone for support. My desire is for You, and I fear You. There is no refuge or sanctuary except with You. I have believed in Your Book which You have revealed and in Your Prophet whom You have sent. If the one who says these words dies that night, he will die upon the natural faith (fitrah). If he reaches the morning, he will reach it with abundant good.

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reciting Surah Wat-Teen in one rak'ah of the Isha prayer. I have not heard anyone recite better than him.

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that he saw the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raising his hands at the beginning of the prayer, and at that time the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) thumbs were in line with his earlobes.

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that in the month of Dhu al-Qa'dah, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out for Umrah. The people of Makkah prevented him from entering Makkah until the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made a treaty with them on the condition that he would come the following year and stay in Makkah for only three days. They would not bring any weapons into Makkah except swords in their sheaths. They would not take anyone out of Makkah, except if someone wished to go with them of his own accord, and they would not prevent any of their companions from staying in Makkah.

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that I saw the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the occasion of the digging of the trench, that he (peace be upon him) was carrying earth along with the people, until the earth covered the skin of his stomach, and he (peace be upon him) was reciting these verses of (Abdullah bin Rawaha, may Allah be pleased with him): O Allah, if You were not (with us), we would not have found guidance, nor given charity, nor performed prayer. So send down tranquility upon us, and make us steadfast when we meet the enemy. These people have rebelled against us, and when they intend to cause mischief, we refuse (to comply). Upon this last sentence, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would raise his voice.

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that a silk cloth was presented to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). It is narrated from Hazrat Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would wake up, he would say: "All praise is due to Allah who gave us life after causing us to die, and to Him is the gathering." And when he would go to sleep, he would say: "O Allah! In Your name I live and in Your name I die."

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Arrangements have been made for a wet nurse for Ibrahim (may Allah be pleased with him) in Paradise.

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was on a journey, and in one rak‘ah of the ‘Isha prayer, he (peace be upon him) recited Surah Wat-Teen.

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Hazrat Hassan bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him): Satirize the polytheists, Gabriel is with you.

Hazrat Abu Burdah bin Niyar (may Allah be pleased with him) slaughtered his animal before the Eid prayer. He said, "O Messenger of Allah! I have already slaughtered my animal." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him, "Sacrifice another animal in its place." He said, "O Messenger of Allah! Now I only have a six-month-old lamb, which is better than a year-old animal." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Slaughter it in its place, but no one else besides you is permitted to do so."

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that he saw the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raising his hands at the time of commencing the prayer.

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that once (on the day of Eid al-Adha) the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed us and said: Today, we will begin the day by offering the prayer, then return home and perform the sacrifice. Whoever does so has reached our way, and whoever performs the sacrifice before the Eid prayer, it is merely meat that he has given to his family beforehand; it has nothing to do with the sacrifice. My uncle, Hazrat Abu Burdah bin Niyar (may Allah be pleased with him), had already slaughtered his animal before the Eid prayer. He said, “O Messenger of Allah! I have already slaughtered my animal, but now I have a six-month-old lamb which is better than a year-old animal.” The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Slaughter this in its place, but no one else besides you is permitted to do so.”

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that we were ordered (on the occasion of the Battle of Ahzab) to dig a trench. While digging the trench, we reached a place where there was such a rock that the pickaxe would not affect it at all. The noble companions (may Allah be pleased with them) complained about it to the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) himself came, climbed onto the rock, took the pickaxe in his hand, and, saying “Bismillah,” struck it once, breaking one third of it. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raised the slogan of “Allahu Akbar” and said, “The keys of Syria have been given to me. By Allah! I can see its red palaces from this very place.” Then, saying “Bismillah,” he struck it again, breaking another third, and the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said “Allahu Akbar” and said, “The keys of Persia have been given to me. By Allah! I can see the city of Madain and its white palaces from this very place.” Then, saying “Bismillah,” he struck it again, and the remaining part also broke off, and the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said “Allahu Akbar” and said, “The keys of Yemen have been given to me. By Allah! I can see the gates of Sana’a from this very place.” The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain.

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara that the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) said: When two Muslims meet each other and shake hands, before they separate, their sins are forgiven.

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was wearing a red garment. I have not seen anyone among all creation more beautiful than him in that garment, peace and blessings be upon him.

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that on one occasion he demonstrated the method of prostration by performing it himself: he spread his hands, raised his buttocks, and kept his abdomen separate from the ground. Then he said that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also used to prostrate in this manner.

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that he saw the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raising his hands at the beginning of the prayer, and at that time the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) thumbs were level with his earlobes.

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that a person asked the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about performing ablution after eating camel meat. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Perform ablution. Then he was asked about praying in camel enclosures, so the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not pray in them. Then he was asked about praying in goat enclosures, so the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You may pray in them. Then it was asked: Should we perform ablution after eating goat meat? The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No.

It is narrated from Hazrat Bara bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever gives someone a gift, such as silver or gold, or gives someone milk to drink, or gives someone a water-skin, it is as if he has freed a slave. And whoever recites these words: La ilaha illallah wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahu’l-mulk wa lahu’l-hamd wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay’in qadeer, it is like freeing a slave. And the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to go from one end of the row to the other, straightening the chests and shoulders of the worshippers, and would say: Do not move forward or backward, otherwise differences will arise in your hearts. And he would say: Upon those in the first rows, Allah sends mercy and the angels pray for mercy. And the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Beautify the Qur’an with your voices.
