Musnad Ahmad 8117 — Musnad of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with)
وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَثَلِي كَمَثَلِ رَجُلٍ اسْتَوْقَدَ نَارًا ، فَلَمَّا أَضَاءَتْ مَا حَوْلَهَا ، جَعَلَ الْفَرَاشُ وَهَذِهِ الدَّوَابُّ الَّتِي يَقَعْنَ فِي النَّارِ يَقَعْنَ فِيهَا ، وَجَعَلَ يَحْجِزُهُنَّ وَيَغْلِبْنَهُ ، فَتَتَقَحَّمُ فِيهَا " ، قَالَ : " فَذَلِكُمْ مَثَلِي وَمَثَلُكُمْ ، أَنَا آخِذٌ بِحُجَزِكُمْ عَنِ النَّارِ : هَلُمَّ عَنِ النَّارِ ، هَلُمَّ عَنِ النَّارِ ، هَلُمَّّ فَتَغْلِبُونِي ، تَقْتَحِمُونَ فِيهَا " .
And the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: My example is like that of a person who kindled a fire. When the fire illuminated the surroundings, moths and wild animals began to fall into it. That person kept pulling them back by their backs, saying, "Stay away from the fire!" but you keep falling into it.
