(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى يَعْنِي ابْنَ دَاوُدَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هَانِئٍ ، عَنْ عَبَّاسِ بْنِ جُلَيْدٍ الْحَجْرِيِّ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، كَمْ يُعْفَى عَنِ الْمَمْلُوكِ ؟ قَالَ : فَصَمَتَ عَنْهُ ، ثُمَّ أَعَادَ ، فَصَمَتَ عَنْهُ ، ثُمَّ أَعَادَ ، فَقَالَ : " يُعْفَى عَنْهُ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ سَبْعِينَ مَرَّةً " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man came to the presence of the Messenger and said: "O Messenger of Allah! How many times should a servant be forgiven?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) remained silent. He asked the same question again, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) remained silent. Upon asking a third time, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "He should be forgiven seventy times a day."
