(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ . وَحَجَّاجٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عُثْمَانَ النَّهْدِيَّ ، قَالَ : جَاءَنَا كِتَابُ عُمَرَ ، وَنَحْنُ بِأَذْرَبِيجَانَ مَعَ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ فَرْقَدٍ ، أَوْ بِالشَّامِ : أَمَّا بَعْدُ ، فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " نَهَى عَنِ الْحَرِيرِ إِلَّا هَكَذَا ، أُصْبُعَيْنِ " ، قَالَ أَبُو عُثْمَانَ : فَمَا عَتَّمْنَا إِلَّا أَنَّهُ الْأَعْلَامُ .
Abu Uthman says that we were with Sayyiduna Utbah bin Farqad (may Allah be pleased with him) in Shaam or Azerbaijan when a letter from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived, in which it was written that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade wearing silk clothing except for an amount equal to two fingers.
