(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، وَحَجَّاجٌ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ النُّعْمَانَ يَعْنِي ابْنَ بَشِيرٍ يَخْطُبُ ، قَالَ : ذَكَرَ عُمَرُ مَا أَصَابَ النَّاسُ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا ، فَقَالَ : لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " يَظَلُّ الْيَوْمَ يَلْتَوِي مَا يَجِدُ دَقَلًا يَمْلَأُ بِهِ بَطْنَهُ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that I saw with my own eyes the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turning sides due to hunger, and he could not even find inferior dates with which he could fill his stomach.
