Musnad Ahmad 27609 — From the Hadith of Asma' bint Yazid
حَدَّثَنَا عَارِمٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ ، عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ ، عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ يَزِيدَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , قَالَ : " مَنْ ذَبَّ عَنْ لَحْمِ أَخِيهِ بِالْغِيبَةِ ، كَانَ حَقًّا عَلَى اللَّهِ أَنْ يُعْتِقَهُ مِنَ النَّارِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever defends the honor of his Muslim brother, it is incumbent upon Allah to free him from the fire of Hell on the Day of Resurrection."
