مُسْنَدُ عَبْدِ اللّٰهِ بْنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ رَضِيَ اللّٰهُ عَنْهُمَا

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ مِهْرَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ يَعْنِي الْعَطَّارَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي يَزِيدَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : " قَالَ رَجُلٌ : كَمْ يَكْفِينِي مِنَ الْوُضُوءِ ؟ قَالَ : مُدٌّ , قَالَ : كَمْ يَكْفِينِي لِلْغُسْلِ ؟ قَالَ : صَاعٌ , فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ : لَا يَكْفِينِي , قَالَ : لَا أُمَّ لَكَ ، قَدْ كَفَى مَنْ هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِنْكَ ، رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " .
A person once asked Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), "How much water is sufficient for ablution?" He replied, "The amount of one mudd." The man asked, "How much water is sufficient for bathing?" He replied, "The amount of one sa’." The man said, "That amount is not enough for me." Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said, "May your mother lose you! That amount was sufficient for the one who was better than you, meaning the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)."
