Hadith of the grandfather of Zuhrah ibn Ma'bad (may Allah be pleased with him)
Musnad Ahmad 18961 — Hadith of the grandfather of Zuhrah ibn Ma'bad
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ، عَنْ زُهْرَةَ بْنِ مَعْبَدٍ ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ آخِذٌ بِيَدِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، فَقَالَ : وَاللَّهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، لَأَنْتَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ إِلَّا نَفْسِي ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَا يُؤْمِنُ أَحَدُكُمْ حَتَّى أَكُونَ أَحَبَّ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ نَفْسِهِ " قَالَ عمر : فَأَنْتَ الْآنَ وَاللَّهِ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ نَفْسِي ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الْآنَ يَا عُمَرُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Hisham (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were with the Prophet, and the Prophet was holding the hand of Hazrat Umar Farooq. Hazrat Umar said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I swear by Allah that you are more beloved to me than everything except my own self." The Prophet said, "None of you can be a complete believer until I am more beloved to him than his own self." Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted, "By Allah! Now you are more beloved to me than my own self." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Umar! Now it is complete."
