Musnad Ahmad 18133 — Hadith of Ka'b ibn Ujrah
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي زِيَادٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، عَنْ كَعْب ، قَالَ : لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ : إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَمَلائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ سورة الأحزاب آية 56 ، قَالُوا : كَيْفَ نُصَلِّي عَلَيْكَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّه ؟ قَالَ : " قُولُوا : اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ ، وَبَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ " . قَالَ : وَنَحْنُ نَقُولُ : وَعَلَيْنَا مَعَهُمْ . قَالَ يَزِيدُ : فَلَا أَدْرِي أَشَيْءٌ زَادَهُ ابْنُ أَبِي لَيْلَى مِنْ قِبَلِ نَفْسِهِ ، أَوْ شَيْءٌ رَوَاهُ كَعْبٌ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Ka'b bin Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the verse of Salat (sending blessings) was revealed, a man asked the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "O Messenger of Allah! Please tell us how we should send blessings upon you?" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Say: O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim and upon the family of Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You blessed Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious."
