Musnad Ahmad 17694 — Hadith of 'Abd Allah ibn Busur al-Mazini
حَدَّثَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، قَالَ : عَبْد اللَّهِ وَسَمِعْتُهُ أَنَا مِنَ الْحَكَمِ قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ ، قَالَ : وَحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْيَحْصَبِيُّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ بُسْرٍ صَاحِبَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا جَاءَ الْبَابَ يَسْتَأْذِنُ ، لَمْ يَسْتَقْبِلْهُ ، يَقُولُ : يَمْشِي مَعَ الْحَائِطِ حَتَّى يَسْتَأْذِنَ فَيُؤْذَنَ لَهُ ، أَوْ يَنْصَرِفَ .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Busr (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would go to someone's house, he would stand behind the wall, not directly in front of the door. Then he would seek permission; if permission was granted, he would enter, otherwise he would return.
