Musnad Ahmad 1720 — Hadith of al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ حُبْشِيٍّ ، قَالَ : خَطَبَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ بَعْدَ قَتْلِ عَلِيٍّ رَضي الله عَنْهَما ، فَقَالَ : " لَقَدْ فَارَقَكُمْ رَجُلٌ بِالْأَمْسِ مَا سَبَقَهُ الْأَوَّلُونَ بِعِلْمٍ ، وَلَا أَدْرَكَهُ الْآخِرُونَ ، إِنْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَيَبْعَثُهُ ، وَيُعْطِيهِ الرَّايَةَ ، فَلَا يَنْصَرِفُ حَتَّى يُفْتَحَ لَهُ ، وَمَا تَرَكَ مِنْ صَفْرَاءَ وَلَا بَيْضَاءَ ، إِلَّا سَبْعَ مِائَةِ دِرْهَمٍ مِنْ عَطَائِهِ ، كَانَ يَرْصُدُهَا لِخَادِمٍ لِأَهْلِهِ " .
Habeerah reports that once, our master Imam Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) delivered a sermon before us and said: "Yesterday, a person has departed from you such that those before him could not surpass him in knowledge, and those after him will not even reach his dust. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to give him his banner and send him forth, and he would not return without achieving victory. He did not leave behind any gold or silver in his inheritance, except for seven hundred dirhams from his stipend, which he had set aside for a servant in his household."
