Musnad Ahmad 17196 — Hadith of al-Miqdam ibn Ma'dikarib al-Kindi Abu
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ مَنْصُورًا يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنِ الْمِقْدَامِ أَبِي كَرِيمَةَ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " عَلَى كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ لَلَيْلَةُ الضَّيْفِ حَقٌّ وَاجِبَةٌ ، فَإِنْ أَصْبَحَ بِفِنَائِهِ ، فَهُوَ لَهُ عَلَيْهِ دَيْنٌ إِنْ شَاءَ اقْتَضَى وَإِنْ شَاءَ تَرَكَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Miqdam bin Ma’di Karib (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying: “It is obligatory upon every Muslim to take care of the guest for one night; if the guest remains deprived in the courtyard of his host till morning, then the host has become indebted to him—he may repay it if he wishes, or he may forgo it.”
