حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ ، حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنٌ يَعْنِي الْمُعَلِّمَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ ، عَنْ بُشَيْرِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ ، عَنْ شَدَّادِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " سَيِّدُ الِاسْتِغْفَارِ : اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ ، خَلَقْتَنِي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ ، وَأَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ ، أَبُوءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ ، وَأَبُوءُ لَكَ بِذَنْبِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي ، إِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ " ، قَالَ : " مَنْ قَالَهَا بَعْدَمَا يُصْبِحُ مُوقِنًا بِهَا ، فَمَاتَ مِنْ يَوْمِهِ كَانَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ ، وَمَنْ قَالَهَا بَعْدَمَا يُمْسِي مُوقِنًا بِهَا ، فَمَاتَ مِنْ لَيْلَتِهِ ، كَانَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ " . .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Shaddad bin Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: The chief of supplications for seeking forgiveness (Sayyid al-Istighfar) is that a person says: O Allah! You are my Lord, there is no deity except You, You created me, I am Your servant, and I am, as much as I am able, steadfast upon Your promise and covenant. I acknowledge Your blessings upon me and I confess my sins, so forgive me, for none forgives sins except You. If someone recites these words in the morning with firm belief in his heart and dies that day, he will be among the people of Paradise. And if someone recites these words in the evening and dies that night, he will be among the people of Paradise.
