Musnad Ahmad 17075 — The remainder of the hadith of Abu Mas'ud
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ وَهُوَ ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ، قَالَ : قِيلَ لَهُ : مَا سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ فِي زَعَمُوا ؟ قَالَ : " بِئْسَ مَطِيَّةُ الرَّجُلِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that someone asked him, "What have you heard from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) regarding the phrase 'people think'?" He replied: "It is the worst mount of a person."
