Musnad Ahmad 17046 — The remainder of the hadith of Zayd ibn Khalid
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْحَنَفِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الضَّحَّاكُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي النَّضْرِ ، عَنْ بُسْرِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ ، قَالَ : سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ اللُّقَطَةِ ؟ فَقَالَ : " عَرِّفْهَا سَنَةً ، فَإِنْ اعْتُرِفَتْ فَأَدِّهَا ، وَإِلَّا فَاعْرِفْ عِفَاصَهَا وَوِكَاءَهَا وَعَدَدَهَا ، وَإِلَّا فَكُلْهَا ، فَإِنْ اعْتُرِفَتْ فَأَدِّهَا " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zaid bin Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) that once a man asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): O Messenger of Allah! If I find a lost pouch containing silver, what do you command? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Safeguard its container, its binding, and its quantity well, and announce it for one year. If its owner comes during this period, hand it over to him; otherwise, it becomes yours.
