Musnad Ahmad 16395 — Hadith of Mihjan ad-Dayli from the Prophet
(حديث مرفوع) قَرَأْتُ عَلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ : مَالِكٌ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ بَنِي الدِّيلِ ، يُقَالُ لَهُ بُسْرُ بْنُ مِحْجَنٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ مِحْجَنٍ ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ فِي مَجْلِسٍ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأُذِّنَ بِالصَّلَاةِ ، فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَصَلَّى ، ثُمَّ رَجَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَمِحْجَنٌ فِي مَجْلِسِهِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ مَعَ النَّاسِ ، أَلَسْتَ بِرَجُلٍ مُسْلِمٍ ؟ " قَالَ : بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، وَلَكِنِّي كُنْتُ قَدْ صَلَّيْتُ فِي أَهْلِي ، فَقَالَ لَهُ : " إِذَا جِئْتَ فَصَلِّ مَعَ النَّاسِ ، وَإِنْ كُنْتَ قَدْ صَلَّيْتَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mihjan that once I was present in the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The prayer was established, so I sat to one side. When the prayer was finished, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "Are you not a Muslim?" I replied: "Why not?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then why did you not pray with the people?" I replied: "I had already performed the prayer at home." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Even if you have performed the prayer at home, still join the people in prayer."
