Musnad Ahmad 15915 — Hadith of Qabisah ibn Mukhariq
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي عَوْفٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي حَيَّانُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي قَطَنُ بْنُ قَبِيصَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَبِيصَةَ بْنِ مُخَارِقٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " الْعِيَافَةُ وَالطِّيَرَةُ وَالطَّرْقُ مِنَ الْجِبْتِ " . قَالَ : الْعِيَافَةُ مِنَ الزَّجْرِ ، وَالطَّرْقُ مِنَ الْخَطِّ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Qabeesah that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Frightening birds to make them fly, taking omens from birds, and drawing lines on the ground are acts of idolatry.
