Musnad Ahmad 15577 — Hadith of Hakim ibn Hizam from the Prophet
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عُثْمَانَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ مُوسَى بْنَ طَلْحَةَ , أَنَّ حَكِيمَ بْنَ حِزَامٍ حَدَّثَهُ , قَالَ : قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " خَيْرُ الصَّدَقَةِ أَوْ أَفْضَلُ الصَّدَقَةِ مَا أَبْقَتْ غِنًى ، وَالْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى ، وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hakeem that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: The best charity is that which is given while some wealth remains. The upper hand is better than the lower hand. Begin charity and alms with those who are under your responsibility.
