Musnad Ahmad 15317 — Musnad of Hakim ibn Hizam from the Prophet
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ عُثْمَانَ ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ طَلْحَةَ ، عَنْ حَكِيمِ بْنِ حِزَام ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ خَيْرَ الصَّدَقَةِ عَنْ ظَهْرِ غِنًى ، وَالْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى ، وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hakeem that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The best charity is that which is given while some wealth remains. The upper hand is better than the lower hand. Begin charity and almsgiving with those who are under your responsibility.
