(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْهَادِ ، عَنْ يُحَنَّسَ مَوْلَى مُصْعَبِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ، قَالَ : بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ نَسِيرُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالْعَرْجِ ، إِذْ عَرَضَ شَاعِرٌ يُنْشِدُ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " خُذُوا الشَّيْطَانَ أَوْ أَمْسِكُوا الشَّيْطَانَ ، لَأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ الرَّجُلِ قَيْحًا ، خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were walking with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when suddenly a poet came reciting poetry. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Stop this devil. For a man's belly to be filled with pus is better than for it to be filled with poetry."
