حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ , حَدَّثَنِي حَمَّادٌ , عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو , عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ , عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ , أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لَتَتَّبِعُنَّ سَنَنَ مَنْ قَبْلَكُمْ ، الشِّبْرَ بِالشِّبْرِ , وَالذِّرَاعَ بِالذِّرَاعِ , وَالْبَاعَ بِالْبَاعِ , حَتَّى لَوْ أَنَّ أَحَدَهُمْ دَخَلَ جُحْرَ ضَبٍّ لَدَخَلْتُمُوهُ " , قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّه , أَمِنَ الْيَهُودِ , وَالنَّصَارَى ؟ قَالَ : " مَنْ إِذًا " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You will surely follow the ways of the previous nations, hand span by hand span and arm's length by arm's length, so much so that if they entered the hole of a lizard, you would also enter it." The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), do you mean the Jews and Christians by this?" He replied, "Then who else?"
