Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hasan that he says: The places of worship for the believers are their homes.

It is narrated from Hasan regarding the Divine Command { فَضُرِبَ بَیْنَہُمْ بِسُورٍ لَہُ بَابٌ بَاطِنُہُ فِیہِ الرَّحْمَۃُ }. He says that by this is meant Paradise. And by { وَظَاہِرُہُ مِنْ قِبَلِہِ الْعَذَابُ } is meant Hell.

It is narrated from Hasan regarding the Divine Command { یَوْمَئِذٍ یَتَذَکَّرُ الإِنْسَاْن وَأَنَّی لَہُ الذِّکْرَی یَقُولُ یَا لَیْتَنِی قَدَّمْت لِحَیَاتِی }. He says: By God! He will surely know that here such a long life is about to begin which has no end.

It is narrated from Hasan. He says that a time will come upon the people when they will discuss their worldly affairs in their mosques. There will be no need for God in it. So do not join their gatherings.

It is narrated from Hasan regarding the divine command { فَلاَ یُخْرِجَنَّکُمَا مِنَ الْجَنَّۃِ فَتَشْقَی }, he says: By this, God means “the misery of the world.” Thus, you will not find any son of Adam except that he will be miserable and unsuccessful.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Musa. He says that Hasan recited this verse { وَکَانَ أَبُوہُمَا صَالِحًا }. He said: I have heard that Allah mentioned goodness in their child. Allah protected them because of their father.

It is narrated from Hasan. He says that "La ilaha illallah" is the price of Paradise.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ismail bin Abi Khalid that Hasan used to say: Whatever Allah has forbidden to the people, they fear it, and whatever Allah has given to the people, they do good in it.

It is narrated from Hasan regarding the command of Allah Almighty { رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِی الدُّنْیَا حَسَنَۃً وَفِی الآخِرَۃِ حَسَنَۃً }. He said: In this world, knowledge and worship, and in the Hereafter, Paradise.

It is narrated from Hasan regarding the command of Allah Almighty { وَلاَ تَنْسَ نَصِیبَک مِنَ الدُّنْیَا } that He said: Send forward the extra thing and withhold as much as will get you (to your destination).

It is narrated from Hasan regarding the command of Allah Almighty { یَسْعَی نُورُہُمْ بَیْنَ أَیْدِیہِمْ وَبِأَیْمَانِہِمْ }. He said: On the Day of Resurrection, this will happen on the Bridge of Sirat.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Al-Ashhab. He says that Hasan began reciting until he reached { وَلاَ یَذْکُرُونَ اللَّہَ إِلاَّ قَلِیلاً }. He said: These few are only so because they are (many) for other than Allah.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Al-Ashhab that he said: Hasan recited the verse of the Holy Qur'an { التَّائِبُونَ الْعَابِدُونَ } and said: They repented from polytheism and were absolved from hypocrisy.

Hasan says: There are three types of scholars. Some scholars are learned for themselves and for others. These are the best and most virtuous among the scholars. And some scholars are learned for themselves. These are also good. And some scholars are neither for themselves nor for anyone else. These are the worst among the scholars.

It is narrated from Hasan. He says that whoever among you has the ability to be the imam of his family, his tribe, and the people beyond them, should do this work. Because whatever is taken from you, you will have a share in it.

It is narrated from Hasan that he said: I have found such people who would make their family members firmly resolve that they would not turn away any beggar.

It is narrated about Hasan that he recited the entire verse { وَاسْأَلْہُمْ عَنِ الْقَرْیَۃِ الَّتِی کَانَتْ حَاضِرَۃَ الْبَحْرِ إذْ یَعْدُونَ فِی السَّبْتِ إذْ تَأْتِیہِمْ حِیتَانُہُمْ یَوْمَ سَبْتِہِمْ شُرَّعًا }. Then he said: This was a fish which Allah Almighty had forbidden them for one day, and besides that, on the remaining days, He had made it lawful for the people. So these fish would come to them on that day like pregnant she-camels. They would not stop anyone. So those people intended and began to restrain (them), until they would catch them and then eat them. By God! There is no food greater than this food that people have ever eaten. It brought disgrace in this world and the severest punishment in the Hereafter. And by God! A believer is more sacred to God than a fish. But Allah Almighty has promised the people the Day of Resurrection, and the Resurrection is more dreadful and certain to occur.

It is narrated from Muhammad that he said: We used to say that when Allah intends good for a servant, He appoints for him a warner from his own self who commands him to do good and forbids him from evil.

It is narrated from Hazrat Kulthum bin Jubair that he said: In Basra, Mutamanni used to say: The jurisprudence of Hasan, the piety of Hazrat Muhammad bin Sirin, the worship of Hazrat Talq bin Habib, and the forbearance of Ibn Yasar are unparalleled.

Hazrat Muwarriq Ajli says that I have not seen anyone more cautious in his jurisprudence than Muhammad (may Allah have mercy on him), nor anyone more knowledgeable in jurisprudence in his cautiousness. Hazrat Abu Qilabah says: Wherever you turn him, you will find him the most cautious and the one who has the greatest control over his own self among you.

It is narrated from Muhammad that he says: I do not know of any impurity in the religion.

Hazrat Imran bin Abdullah narrates that for Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib, his own self was lighter than a fly when it came to matters of Allah.

It is narrated from Hazrat Yahya bin Saeed. He says that Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib used to often say in his gathering: O Allah! Grant safety. O Allah! Grant safety.

Hazrat Ka'b says that Allah Almighty has never looked towards Paradise except that He said: "Become good for your people." Thus, despite its goodness, it becomes even better until the people of Paradise enter Paradise.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ka'b that he says: Ibrahim said, "O Lord! I am grieved by the fact that, besides me, no one on the face of the earth worships You." So Allah Almighty sent angels who would stay with Ibrahim and pray with him.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ka'b that he says: The world and whatever is in it is all accursed, except for the one who learns and teaches goodness.

It is narrated from Hazrat Mutarrif that Hazrat Ka'b, regarding the Divine command (وَفُرُشٍ مَرْفُوعَۃٍ), said: up to a distance of forty years.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ka’b that he says: On the Day of Resurrection, a leader who was foremost in goodness will be brought, and it will be said to him: Answer your Lord. Then he will be taken to his Lord, and there will be no veil between him and his Lord. Then he will be ordered to go to Paradise, so he will see his own rank and the ranks of those who assisted and helped him in good deeds. And it will be said to him: This is so-and-so’s rank, and this is so-and-so’s rank. Thus, whatever honor and status Allah Almighty has prepared for him in Paradise, he will see it. And he will see his own rank superior to the ranks of others. He will be clothed in the garments of Paradise, and a crown will be placed on his head, and the breeze of Paradise will be made to flow over him. And his face will be made so radiant that it will become like the moon. The narrator Hammam says: I think my teacher said, like the full moon... The narrator says: Then he will come out, and whoever sees him will say: O Allah, make him among us, until he comes to those who used to assist and participate with him in good deeds. And he will say: O so-and-so! Rejoice, for Allah Almighty has prepared such and such for you in Paradise, and for you, such and such has been prepared in Paradise. Thus, he will keep informing them about the blessings that Allah Almighty has prepared for them in Paradise, until their faces also become as white as his face. Thus, people will recognize them by the whiteness of their faces and will say: These are the people of Paradise.

(And the leader of the wicked will be brought, and it will be said to him: Answer your Lord. Then he will be taken to his Lord, and then a veil will be placed between him and his Lord, and he will be ordered to go to Hell, and there he will see his own rank and the ranks of his companions. It will be said to him: This is so-and-so’s rank, and this is so-and-so’s rank. Thus, he will see the humiliation prepared by Allah for him there, and he will see his own rank worse than all others. The narrator says: His face will become black and his eyes blue, and a cap of fire will be placed on his head. Then when he comes out, every group that sees him will seek refuge with Allah from him. Then he will come to those companions who used to assist and participate with him in evil. The narrator says: Those people will say: We seek refuge with Allah from you. The narrator says: He will say: May Allah not grant you refuge from me. Then he will say to them: O so-and-so! Remember such and such thing. Thus, he will remind them of all the mischiefs which they used to do together and with mutual assistance. He will keep telling them about the punishment prepared for them in Hell, until their faces also become black like his face, and people will recognize them by the blackness of their faces and will say: These are the people of Hell.)

It is narrated from Hazrat Hisham bin Urwah that he says: My father told us: When any of you sees the adornment and beauty of the world, he should go to his family and instruct them to pray and remain steadfast upon it, because Allah Almighty said to His Prophet ﷺ: { وَلاَ تَمُدَّنَّ عَیْنَیْک إِلَی مَا مَتَّعْنَا بِہِ أَزْوَاجًا مِنْہُمْ } Then he, may Allah have mercy on him, recited this verse to the end.

Hazrat Hisham bin Urwah narrates from his father that he said: When you see a man doing a good deed, know that he has more good deeds with him, because goodness indicates towards more goodness. And when you see a man committing a sin, know that he has more sins with him, because sin indicates towards more sin.
