Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated about Hazrat Abu Hazim that he used to say: A little of this world occupies one away from much of the Hereafter. Then he said: You will find a person who is occupied with concern for others instead of himself, whereas he should have been more concerned about his own self than about others.

It is narrated about Hazrat Abu Hazim that he used to say: You see a man who is committing sins. Then when he is asked, "Do you like death?" he says, "No, and how could I like it while I have what I have?" Then he is asked, "Will you not abandon these sinful deeds?" So he says, "I do not want to leave them, and I also do not want to die until I abandon them."

It is narrated from Hasan regarding the Divine command {إنَّ جَہَنَّمَ کَانَتْ مِرْصَادًا }. He says: By God! Hell will lie in wait for the criminals. It is said that during this time, a man will be passing by when another man will come before him and say to him: Have you heard that there is an ambush on the way? He will reply: Yes. The first man will say: Then protect yourself.

Hazrat Husain bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that he saw Hazrat Abu Sinan on the day of Jumu'ah, his eyes were flowing with tears and his lips were moving.

It is narrated from Hazrat Maimoon that he says: A person cannot become truly pious until he holds himself to account even more strictly than he does his business partner. To the extent that he examines where his food, his drink, and his clothing come from.

It is narrated from Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair regarding the Divine Command { مَنْ کَانَ یُرِیدُ الْحَیَاۃَ الدُّنْیَا وَزِینَتَہَا نُوَفِّ إلَیْہِمْ أَعْمَالَہُمْ فِیہَا وَہُمْ فِیہَا لاَ یُبْخَسُونَ }, he says: Whoever acts for the sake of the world, his full reward is given to him in this world itself.

Hazrat Sufyan bin Uyaynah narrates that people asked Hazrat Ibn al-Munkadir, "Which deed is dearest to you?" He replied, "Making a believer happy." People asked, "What is the thing that remains from which you derive pleasure?" He replied, "Honoring brothers."

It is narrated from Hazrat Amarah bin Umair that he says: Hazrat Qais bin Sakan entered the mosque and began to look around, then said: The mosque has become barren, the mosque has become barren.

Hazrat Malik bin Mughul narrates about Hazrat Abu Husain that he said to me: If you had seen those people whom I have seen, you would have had your heart torn to pieces over them.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hazim that he said: Conceal your good deeds even more than you conceal your bad deeds.

It is narrated from Hazrat Amr bin Qais that he says: Whoever recites two hundred verses of the Holy Qur'an in such a way that he is looking at the Qur'an, then on that day, no person performs a deed superior to that of this person.

It is narrated from Hazrat Amr that he says: I have not seen a greater scholar in giving fatwa than Hazrat Jabir bin Zaid, and I heard him say that I own only a donkey from this world.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu al-Duha regarding the Divine command { ألاَّ إنَّ أَوْلِیَائَ اللہِ لاَ خَوْفٌ عَلَیْہِمْ وَلاَ ہُمْ یَحْزَنُونَ }, he says: These are the people who, when seen, remind one of God.

Hazrat Abdullah says that whoever is pleased to see his own condition with Allah should look at the condition of people with him.

It is narrated from Hazrat Mujahid regarding {إِلاَّ أَنْ تَقَطَّعَ قُلُوبُہُمْ }. He said: This is death.

It is narrated from Hazrat Salim regarding { وَاعْبُدْ رَبَّک حَتَّی یَأْتِیَک الْیَقِینُ }. He said: By الْیَقِینُ is meant death.

Hazrat Rabee’ bin Munzir narrates from his father that people brought pebbles to Hazrat Rabee’ bin Khuthaym or pebbles were bought for him, and then these were placed in his house or in his room. That is, he used to sit on them.

It is narrated from the household of Hazrat Rabi' bin Khuthaym that they say Hazrat Rabi's deeds used to be concealed.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) regarding the Divine command { مِنْ مَائٍ صَدِیدٍ }. He says: This is the water that flows between the skin and flesh of the disbeliever.

It is narrated from Hasan regarding { یَوْمَئِذٍ یَتَذَکَّرُ الإِنْسَان وَأَنَّی لَہُ الذِّکْرَی یَقُولُ یَا لَیْتَنِی قَدَّمْت لِحَیَاتِی }, he says: By God! He will surely come to know that he is near to such a life in which, ultimately, there is no death.

It is narrated from Hasan that there was a king among the kings. When the time of his death came, the people of his kingdom came to him and said, "After you, to whom are you leaving the cities and the people?" So the king replied, "O people! Do not remain ignorant. All of you belong to that Being who does not care whether something from His kingdom is taken by someone small or someone great."

It is narrated from Hasan that he says: As long as a person speaks for the sake of Allah and as long as a person acts for the sake of Allah, he remains upon goodness.

Hazrat Abu Al-Ashhab narrates, he says that I heard Hasan saying: O son of Adam! You have a hidden state and you have an apparent state. So your hidden state is more in your control than your apparent state. You have an action and you have a word. So your action is more in your control than your word.

Hazrat Abu Al-Ashhab narrates, he says that I heard Hasan saying: O son of Adam! You see the speck in your brother's eye, but you ignore the beam in your own eye.

Hazrat Ata bin Saib narrates that when Hazrat Abu’l-Bakhtari and his companions heard someone praising them or felt self-admiration, they would turn their shoulders and say: I humble myself before Allah.

It is narrated from Hazrat Thabit. He says that Hasan was asked, "O Abu Saeed! Does Satan sleep?" He replied, "If he were heedless, every believer would feel this in his heart."

Hazrat Abu Al-Ashhab narrates. He says that Hasan narrates. There are people of evil and there are people of good. Whoever abandons something, it suffices him.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ka'b. He says: By God! The praise of a servant does not remain established on the earth until it becomes established for him in the heavens.

It is narrated from Hazrat Dhahhak. He says that Hazrat Umar bin Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, wrote to Hazrat Abu Musa: "Amma ba'd! Surely, there is strength in action. Do not leave today's work for tomorrow. Because if you do so, many tasks will accumulate upon you. You will not know which of them to take up. Then you will waste them. So when you are given a choice between two tasks, one of which is for the world and the other for the Hereafter, then give preference to the work of the Hereafter over the work of the world. Because the world is perishable and the Hereafter is everlasting. And remain in fear of Allah. And learn the Book of Allah, for it is the source of knowledge and the springtime of hearts."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that he said: Whoever acts with show-off, Allah Almighty will also deal with him with show-off.

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Abi Zakariya. He says that it has reached me that when a person shows off in any of his deeds, his previous deeds become void.

Hazrat Jundub Alqi narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever seeks fame, Allah the Exalted will disgrace him, and whoever acts hypocritically, Allah the Exalted will expose his hypocrisy."

Hazrat Abdullah says: Whoever seeks fame, Allah disgraces him; and whoever adopts humility out of fear, Allah elevates him; and whoever tries to become great by arrogance, Allah the Exalted brings him down.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr that he said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever seeks fame among the people, Allah Almighty will disgrace him among all of creation on the Day of Resurrection, and will make him despised and insignificant."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Saeed that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever seeks fame, Allah will disgrace him, and whoever shows off, Allah will expose him."

It is narrated from Hasan, he says: Indeed, I have found such people who did not eat to fill their stomachs in this manner. Even after eating, those people remained weak, thin, and as agile as before.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ash'ath that he says: When we used to go to Hasan, we would come out in such a state that we considered the world to be nothing.

It is narrated from Hasan regarding the verse of the Holy Qur'an { وَحِیلَ بَیْنَہُمْ وَبَیْنَ مَا یَشْتَہُونَ } that it means being deprived of faith.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Musa that he says: Hasan said: Among the signs of the nearness of the Hour is that death will come to the best among you and snatch them away just as one of you picks out the finest dates from a plate.

It is narrated from Hazrat Salam bin Miskeen that he says: Hasan said: Disgrace the world. By Allah! It will be as insignificant to you as you consider it insignificant.
