Claim of Loss of Hearing

Hazrat Ibn Jurayj said that I have received the information that a man came to Umar bin Abdul Aziz and said, "Such-and-such person has beaten me to the extent that one of my ears has become deaf." So Hazrat Umar said, "How will we know?" The man replied, "Call the physicians." So they called the physicians, and after smelling (examining), they said that he is deaf.

It is narrated from Hazrat Zaid bin Thabit regarding a person who claims that his hearing has been lost, that it is instructed that an oath should be taken from this man regarding it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Shurayh that when a man claimed to have lost his hearing, he (Shurayh) ordered him to take an oath regarding it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Mujahid that when he heard the thunderous sound and became unconscious, there is blood money (diyah) in this case.

It is narrated from Ibrahim that he will be called in a state of heedlessness.

Hazrat Zubair bin Junadah narrates that I asked Ata about a person who struck another, and then the victim lost his hearing, although previously he could hear. Ata replied that he should be left alone, and then when he is in deep sleep, noise and commotion should be made around him; if he does not wake up, then blood money (diyat) will be due, and if he wakes up, then a decision will be made.
