Blood Money for the Nose

It is narrated from a man of the family of Umar that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When the soft bone of the nose is broken, there will be blood money for it.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: There is blood money for the nose.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said that there is blood money (diyah) for the nose, and if the nose is cut off, then the blood money will be according to that.

Hazrat Abu Bakr bin Amr bin Hazm narrates that in the letter of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) which was written to Hazrat Amr bin Hazm, it was stated that if the soft part of the nose has been cut off, then blood money (diyah) will be due for it.

Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz said that there is diyah (blood money) for the nose, and for any injury less than the nose, its diyah will be according to its extent.

Ibrahim said that the nose and ears are like the teeth; if the injury is less than that, compensation will be given proportionally.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah that when the nose is cut off from the root or its soft part is cut off, the full blood money (diyah) will be divided into five parts, and if the injury is of a lesser degree than this, then the blood money will be according to that.

Hazrat Mujahid said that for the cutting of the tip of the nose, one third of the blood money (diyah) is due. Then, if the wound reaches the cartilage, the full diyah will be obligatory. And if, due to the tip of the nose, the septum or any other part of the nose is harmed, then as long as it does not reach the cartilage, only the diyah corresponding to the tip will be obligatory.

Hazrat Ibn Jurayj states that Sulaiman bin Musa said that Umar bin Abdul Aziz issued an order to the commanders of the armies that when the nose is cut off from the root, the compensation (diyah) will be according to that.

Hazrat Aamir said that there is diyat (blood money) for the bone on the upper side of the nose (where the eyebrows meet).

There is blood money for the cartilage of the nose.

Hazrat Umar said that there is diyah (blood money) for the nose.
