Selling Grape Juice

The father of Hazrat Abu Bakr bin Abi Musa used to sell the juice of grapes.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) was asked about the sale of grapes. He replied: "Dry them first, then sell them."

It is narrated from Hazrat Mus'ab bin Mas'ud that a man from the land of Hazrat Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) came to him and said: The grapes have become very abundant. He replied: Dry them and make raisins. The man said: They are even more than that. The narrator says that then Hazrat Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) himself went towards the land and ordered them to be uprooted, and they were uprooted. Then he said to his agent: After this, I will not trust you in any matter.

Hazrat Abu Ubaidah had some grapes. He had instructed his agents to sell them while they were still grapes, and if they were not bought, then when their juice was extracted, to sell the juice.

Ibrahim says that there is no harm in selling grape juice as long as it does not contain intoxication.

23559 - And (from) (1) Hammad (2) from Ibrahim (they both said) (3): There is no harm in selling juice as long as it does not ferment.

Hazrat Ata said regarding the person who was selling grapes to someone who made wine from them, he said: I prefer that they be sold to a person who does not make wine, and if they are sold to a person who makes wine, then there is no harm in it.

It was asked from Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) about the sale of grape juice. He said: Sell it as long as it is sweet.

It is narrated from Hazrat Hakam that a man had grapes; he used to extract their juice and sell it. You said: Sell them while they are still grapes, or after making juice—there is no harm in either case.

Hazrat Ata says that do not sell grapes to a person who makes wine from them.

Hazrat Sufyan was asked about the juice of grapes. He replied: Sell a lawful thing in whatever manner you wish.
