If a Man Enters the Mosque and Misses the Congregational Prayer, What Should He Do?

Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair says that if a person enters the mosque and the congregation has finished, then he should first offer the obligatory prayer.

Ibrahim says that he should first perform the obligatory prayer.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that he should first offer the obligatory prayer.

Hazrat Sha'bi says that one should first offer the prayer for which he has gone.

Hazrat Sha'bi says that you should first perform the obligatory prayer.

Ibrahim says: First, perform the obligatory prayer.

Hazrat Aflah narrates that I and Hazrat Qasim came to the mosque, but the people had already performed the prayer. They (Hazrat Qasim) first offered the obligatory prayer.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that the example of a person who comes to the mosque after the congregation has finished and engages himself in voluntary prayers is like the person who occupies himself with performing Umrah before Hajj.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila narrates that first perform the prayer for which you have come.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was asked: If a person comes to the mosque and the congregation has already finished, can he offer voluntary (nafl) prayers first? He replied: This would be like a person performing Umrah before performing Hajj.
