Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Bakr narrates that Hazrat Umar received a letter from Najran stating that there is no place better and cleaner than the church for people to pray. Can we pray there? Hazrat Umar replied that clean the place with water and lote tree leaves, and then perform the prayer there.

Ibrahim, Hasan, and Hazrat Sha'bi state that there is no harm in performing prayers in churches.

Hazrat Hajjaj says that I asked Hazrat Ata about praying in a church and a chapel, so he replied that there is no harm in it.

Ibrahim and Hazrat Sha'bi state that it is permissible to pray in the places of worship of Christians and Jews.

Muhammad says that it is permissible to pray in a Jewish place of worship.

Hasan considered it disliked to pray in the places of worship of non-Muslims, while Muhammad declared it permissible.

Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said that if there are images in a church, then it is disliked to pray there.

Hazrat Usman bin Abi Hind says that I saw Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz standing on a church leading people in prayer, while the people were standing below him.

Hazrat Ismail bin Rafi says that I saw Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz leading prayers in a church in the land of Shaam.

Hazrat Taliq bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that we came to the service of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as a delegation. We said, "In our land, there is a church. We request the leftover water from your ablution to purify it." The Prophet had water brought, performed ablution, rinsed his mouth, and placed the leftover water in our vessel. He then said, "Take it with you. When you reach your area, demolish your church, sprinkle this water on that place, and make that place a mosque."

Hazrat Azhar Hirazi narrates that Hazrat Abu Musa prayed in a church in Damascus, which is called the Church of John.
