If a Follower Misses a Rak‘ah with the Imam, Should He Perform Sujud Sahw?
Hadith 4749
٤٧٤٩ - حدثنا هشيم قال أخبرنا (١) حميد عن أنس أن رسول اللَّه ﷺ قال: "إِنِّي لأَكُونُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَأَسْمَعُ صَوْتَ الصَّبِيِّ يَبْكي (فَأَتَجَوَّزُ) (٢) فِي صَلَاتِي مَخَافَةَ أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمِّه" (٣).
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Sometimes I am in prayer and I hear the sound of a child crying, so I shorten the prayer out of fear of causing hardship to his mother.
Hadith 4750
٤٧٥٠ - حدثنا علي ابن إسحاق عن ابن مبارك عن الأوزاعي قال: حدثنا (١) يحيى بن أبي (كثير) (٢) عن عبد اللَّه بن أبي قتادة عن أبيه أن النبي ﷺ قال: "إِنِّي ⦗٥٣١⦘ لأَكُونُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَأُريدُ أنْ أُطَوِّلَ فِيهَا فَأَسْمَعُ بُكَاءَ الصَّبِيِّ فَأَتَجَوَّزُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ كَرَاهِيَةَ أنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمِّه" (٣).
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Qatadah that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Sometimes I am in prayer and I intend to prolong the prayer, then I hear the cry of a child, so I shorten the prayer, because I do not like to cause hardship to his mother.
Hadith 4751
٤٧٥١ - حدثنا وكيع عن سفيان عن أبي الحويرث الزرقي عن علي بن (حسين) (١) قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "إِنِّي لأَسْمَعُ بُكَاَء الصَّبِيِّ خَلْفي فَأُخَفِفُ شَفَقَةً أَنْ أَفْتِنَ أُمَّهُ" (٢).
Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) bin Hussain narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sometimes during prayer, I hear the sound of a child crying from behind me, so I shorten the prayer because I fear for the distress of his mother.
Hadith 4752
٤٧٥٢ - حدثنا وكيع عن سفيان عن أبي (السوداء) (١) النهدي عن ابن سابط أن رسول اللَّه ﷺ قرأ في الركعة الأولى بسورة نحوا من ستين آية فسمع بكاء صبي قال: فقرأ في الثانية بثلاث آيات (٢).
Hazrat Ibn Sabit narrates that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited sixty verses in the first rak'ah of a prayer. Then he heard the sound of a child crying, so in the second rak'ah he recited only three verses.
Hadith 4753
٤٧٥٣ - حدثنا شريك عن أبي هارون عن أبي سعيد فيما (نعلم) (١) عن النبي ﷺ قال: "إِنِّي لأَكُوُن فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَأَسْمَعُ بُكَاءَ الصَّبِيِّ فَأُخَفِّفُ مَخَافَةَ أَنْ أشُقَّ عَلَى أُمِّهِ أو قال: أَنْ تُفْتَنَ أُمُّهُ" (٢).
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Saeed that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Sometimes I am in prayer and I hear the cry of a child, so I shorten the prayer out of fear of causing hardship to his mother.
