Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 39652 — The Battle of Khaybar

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Tomorrow I shall give the banner to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger; Allah, the Pure, will grant victory through him." Sayyiduna Umar said: I never wished for leadership except on that day. When the next day came, I began raising myself up to look for it. Sayyiduna Umar said: He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), stand up, go and fight, and do not turn your attention to anything until Allah Almighty gives victory at your (hand)." So Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) turned to go, then he disliked to turn (back). He said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), on what basis shall I fight these disbelievers?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "(Fight) until they say: La ilaha illallah (there is no god but Allah). When they have said this, their wealth and their blood will be protected, except in the case of some right."
