Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 38021 — The words of al-Hasan al-Basri
٣٨٠٢١ - حدثنا هوذة بن خليفة قال: حدثنا عوف عن الحسن: ﴿(يَوْمَئِذٍ) (١) يَتَذَكَّرُ الْإِنْسَانُ وَأَنَّى لَهُ الذِّكْرَى (٢٣) يَقُولُ يَالَيْتَنِي قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِي﴾ [الفجر: ٢٣ - ٢٤]، قال: علم واللَّه أنه (صادف) (٢) هناك حياة طويلة لا موت فيها (آخر ما عليه) (٣).
It is narrated from al-Hasan concerning "On that Day man will remember, but how will the remembrance avail him? He will say: Oh, would that I had sent ahead for my life!" [al-Fajr: 23-24]. He said: By Allah! He will come to know that he is close to a long life in which, in the end, there is no death.
