Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 37549 — The words of Abu Musa

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: A good companion is better than solitude, and solitude is better than a bad companion. Behold! The likeness of a good companion is that of perfume: even if he gives you none of it, its fragrance will cling to you. And behold! The likeness of a bad companion is that of the smoke of a furnace: even if it does not burn you, its smell will reach you. Behold! The heart is called the heart (qalb) because of its turning over (taqallub). Behold! The likeness of the heart is that of a feather hanging from a tree in the open air above the ground, which the wind keeps turning over, up and down.
