Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 36930 — Reports on the breadth of the mercy

A man came to Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) with a complaint about his sins and asked him about it. Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud paid him no attention and turned to the people, speaking with them. Then Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) glanced at him and saw that he was weeping. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: "The time has now come for the purpose for which you came. Paradise has seven gates, every one of which closes and opens, except the gate of repentance. An angel is appointed over it. So keep doing good deeds and do not despair."
