Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 33913 — What Allah the Exalted gave Muhammad

Sayyiduna Awf bin Malik al-Ashja'i (may Allah be pleased with him) said: One night the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) halted with us, and each of us rested his head on the foreleg of his mount. I woke up at some point in the night and saw that there was no one in front of the she-camel of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). So I went out to look for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and there were Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Qays (may Allah be pleased with them) standing. I said: Where is the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? They said: We know nothing except that we heard a sound from the upper part of the valley, a sound like that of a millstone. We had gone only a little way when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived and said: Tonight one came to me from my Lord and gave me the choice between half of my Ummah entering Paradise and intercession, and I have chosen intercession. We said: O Messenger of Allah, we beseech you by Allah and by your companionship to make us among the people of your intercession. He said: You are among the people of my intercession. He said: We hurried to the people, and they were alarmed and searching for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: Tonight one came to me from my Lord and gave me the choice between half of my Ummah being admitted to Paradise and my intercession, and I have chosen intercession. The people said: O Messenger of Allah, we beseech you by Allah and by your companionship to make us among the people of your intercession. When they pressed him, he said: I call all who are present to witness that my intercession will be for every person of my Ummah who dies without associating anything with Allah.
