Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 2178 — Those who said in the adhan: Prayer
٢١٧٨ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: نا عبدة بن سليمان عن هشام بن عروة عن رجل يقال له إسماعيل قال: جاء المؤذن (يؤذن) (١) عمر بصلاة الصبح فقال: الصلاة خير ⦗٤٤٦⦘ من النوم، فأعجب (به) (٢) عمر، وقال للمؤذن: أقرها في أذانك (٣).
Isma'il said: Once the muezzin of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came to inform him of the Fajr adhan and said: 'al-salatu khayrun min al-nawm (prayer is better than sleep)'. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) liked these words very much and said to the muezzin: Make these words part of your adhan.
