حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ زُرْعَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، مَوْلًى لِمَعْمَرٍ التَّيْمِيِّ، عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ عُمَيْسٍ، قَالَتْ: قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «بِمَاذَا كُنْتِ تَسْتَمْشِينَ؟» قُلْتُ: بِالشُّبْرُمِ، قَالَ: «ذَاكَ حَارٌّ حَارٌّ» قُلْتُ: ثُمَّ اسْتَمْشَيْتُ بِالسَّنَى قَالَ: «لَوْ كَانَ شَيْءٌ يَشْفِي مِنَ الْمَوْتِ كَانَ السَّنَى»
Sayyidah Asma' bint Umays (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "What did you use to take as a laxative (to clear the stomach)?" I said: Shubrum. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That is very strong and hot." I said: Then I used senna as a laxative. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If anything could cure death, it would be senna."
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ صَالِحِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ النَّرْسِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْحَنَفِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنِي عُتْبَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ التَّيْمِيُّ، عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ عُمَيْسٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَأَلَهَا: «بِمَاذَا تَسْتَمْشِينَ؟» فَقَالَتْ: كُنْتُ أَسْتَمْشِي بِالشُّبْرُمِ فَقَالَ: «حَارٌّ حَارٌّ» فَقَالَتْ: ثُمَّ اسْتَمْشَيْتُ بِالسَّنَى فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لَوْ كَانَ فِي شَيْءٍ شِفَاءٌ مِنَ الْمَوْتِ لَكَانَ السَّنَى»
It is narrated from Sayyidah Asma' bint Umays (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked her: "What do you use as a laxative (to clear the stomach)?" She said: I used to use shubrum as a laxative. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is hot, very hot." She said: Then I used senna as a laxative. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If there were a cure for death in anything, it would be in senna."
