حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمَدِينِيِّ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ مُوسَى، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتِ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمَّا ذَكَرَ فِي الْإِزَارِ مَا ذَكَرَ قَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَكَيْفَ النِّسَاءُ؟ قَالَ: «يُرْخِينَ شِبْرًا» قَالَتْ: إِذَنْ تَبْدُو أَقْدَامُهُنَّ، قَالَ: «فَذِرَاعٌ لَا يَزِدْنَ عَلَيْهِ»
It is narrated from Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said what he said about the waist-wrapper (izar), Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: O Messenger of Allah! What should women do? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They should let it hang down a hand-span." She said: Then their feet would be exposed. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then a forearm's length; they should not exceed it."
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، ثنا هُدْبَةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَيُّوبِ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتِ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمَا قَالَ فِي الذَّيْلِ مَا قَالَ قَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ: كَيْفَ بِنَا؟ قَالَ: «تَجُرُّونَ شِبْرًا» قَالَتْ: إِذًا تَنْكَشِفُ الْقَدَمَانِ، قَالَ: «تَجُرُّونَ ذِرَاعًا»
It is narrated from Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said what he said about the hem of the garment, Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: What is the ruling for us? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let it trail a hand-span." She said: Then both feet would be exposed. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let it trail a forearm's length."
