It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mazidah al-Abdi (may Allah be pleased with him) (the grandfather of Hud al-Asari): Once the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was talking with his Companions when he said to them: "Soon a caravan will come to you from this direction; they will be the best of the people of the East." Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and set off in that direction, and he met thirteen riders. He welcomed them and drew them close, and asked: Who are you? They said: Some people from Abd al-Qays. He asked: Then what has brought you to this land? Trade? They said: No. He asked: Have you come to sell these swords of yours? They said: No. He asked: Then perhaps you have come in search of this man? They said: Yes. So he walked along talking with them until, when he saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: This is your companion whom you have been seeking. Then the people threw themselves down from their mounts; some of them ran, some walked briskly, and some walked at an ordinary pace, until they came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), took hold of his hand, kissed it, and sat down with him. Only al-Ashajj (who was the youngest of them) remained behind; he made the camels kneel, tied them, and gathered the people's belongings, then came walking with dignity until he reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), took hold of his hand and kissed it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "There are two qualities in you that Allah and His Messenger love." He said: O Prophet of Allah! What are they? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Forbearance and deliberation." He said: O Prophet of Allah! Is this a natural disposition of mine, or have I developed it in myself? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Rather, it is your natural disposition." He said: All praise is for Allah, who created me with a disposition that Allah and His Messenger love. Then the people began eating their dates, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began telling them about those dates, naming each one: This is such-and-such a variety, and this is such-and-such a variety. They said: Yes, O Prophet of Allah! We do not know their names better than you. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." Then they said to one of their men: Feed us from the dates remaining in your bag. So he brought them barni dates, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is barni; it is among the best of your dates; it is a medicine with no illness in it."
