I placed my hand on his foot and said: "Teach me to recite something from Surah Hud or Surah Yusuf." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You will not recite anything more eloquent in the sight of Allah than Surah al-Falaq."

I placed my hand on his foot and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Teach me to recite something from Surah Hud or Surah Yusuf." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Uqbah bin Amir! You will not recite any surah more beloved to Allah and more eloquent in His sight than Surah al-Falaq. So if you are able not to let it slip from you in any prayer, then do so."

Aslam Abu Imran (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) led us in the Maghrib prayer and delayed it. We were at Constantinople at the time, and Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) was with us. Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: "Why do you delay this prayer when you are a Companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? Whoever did not have his companionship will see you and think that this is its time." We said: "O Abu Ayyub! How did you use to pray it?" He said: "We used to pray it when the sun had set, hastening before (the appearance of) the stars." (Then he asked:) "O Uqbah! Is that so?" He said: "Yes."
