Mu'awiyah bin Abdullah bin Ja'far (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father that on the day of Uhud, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood by Sayyiduna Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was burying him. He was wrapped in a striped sheet (namirah), and when his head was covered his feet became exposed. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that sand be brought and placed over his feet, and he said: "Were it not that our women would grieve over it, we would have left Hamzah like this in the open ground, for the beasts of prey and the birds to eat him."
