Sulaym bin Amir (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I heard Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) say: A man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, carry out the prescribed punishment (hadd) of Allah upon me," (saying it) once or twice, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) turned away from him. Then the prayer was started. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer, he said: "Where is the one who was saying, 'Carry out the hadd of Allah upon me'?" He said: "It is I." He said: "Did you perform ablution completely and pray Isha with us?" He said: "Yes." He said: "Then indeed you are (free) of your sin as on the day your mother gave birth to you, so do not do it again." And Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed: "Establish the prayer at the two ends of the day and in some hours of the night" [Surah Hud: 114].

Sulaym bin Amir (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) told them that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on the day of the Farewell Hajj, while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was on his she-camel al-Jad'a', with his feet placed in the stirrups, one hand resting on the front of the saddle and the other on its back, raising himself up in this way. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O people, be silent, for perhaps you will not see me after this year of yours." Then Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, caused a man from among the people to stand up (to ask), and he asked: "What should we do?" He said: "Worship your Lord, establish your five (prayers), pay the zakah of your wealth, fast your month, and obey those in authority over you; you will enter the Paradise of your Lord."

Sulaym bin Amir (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) told them that at the time of the Isha prayer the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered his Companions: "Gather for the prayer tomorrow, for I have a matter for you." A group of them said: "O so-and-so, write down the first word the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) speaks, and you write the one after it," so that nothing of the speech of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would escape them. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the Fajr prayer, he said: "Have you gathered as I ordered you?" The Companions said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "Worship Allah and do not associate anything with Him. Have you understood this? Have you understood this? Have you understood this?" The Companions said: "Yes." He said: "Establish the prayer and pay the zakah; establish the prayer and pay the zakah; establish the prayer and pay the zakah. Have you understood this? Have you understood this? Have you understood this?" The Companions said: "Yes." He said: "Listen and obey; listen and obey. Have you understood this? Have you understood this? Have you understood this?" The Companions said: "Yes." We had thought that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would now speak at length, but then we reflected on his (peace and blessings be upon him) words and found that he (peace and blessings be upon him) had gathered the whole matter in them.
