حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ، ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ الْخَبَائِرِيُّ، ثنا مَنِيعٌ السَّرِيُّ بْنُ الضَّحَّاكِ الْحَرَّانِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ الْيَزَنِيُّ، عَنْ مَرِيحِ بْنِ مَسْرُوقٍ الْهَوْزَنِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ الْبَاهِلِيِّ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمْ: «إِنَّ الْمَعْرُوفَ لَا يَصْلُحُ إِلَّا لِذِي حَسَبٍ، أَوْ دِينٍ، أَوْ لِذِي حِلْمٍ»
Sayyiduna Abu Umamah al-Bahili (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Kindness (in dealing) befits only one who is of noble lineage, or religious, or forbearing."
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الْبَاقِي الْأَذَنِيُّ الْمِصِّيصِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَوْفٍ الْحِمْصِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو الْمُغِيرَةِ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ رَجَاءٍ الشَّيْبَانِيُّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ شَيْخًا يُكَنَّى أَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ مَرِيحًا يُحَدِّثُ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا أُمَامَةَ، يُحَدِّثُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمْ يَقُولُ: «لَسْتُ أَخَافُ عَلَى أُمَّتِي جُوعًا يَقْتُلُهُمْ، وَلَا عَدُوًّا يَجْتَاحُهُمْ، وَلَكِنِّي أَخَافُ عَلَى أُمَّتِي أَئِمَّةً مُضِلِّينَ، إِنْ أَطَاعُوهُمْ فَتَنُوهُمْ، وَإِنْ عَصَوْهُمْ قَتَلُوهُمْ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah al-Bahili (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "I do not fear for my Ummah a famine that will kill them, nor an enemy that will destroy them; rather, I fear for my Ummah misguiding leaders: if they obey them, they will put them to trial, and if they disobey them, they will kill them."
