Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would often ask his Companions: "Has any of you seen a dream?" Samurah said: So we would relate our dreams to him (peace and blessings be upon him), as much as Allah willed. He said: One morning he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Last night two (persons) came to me, or two visitors came, and they roused me and said to me: Come along. So I went with them. We came to a man who was lying down, and there was another person standing over his head with a rock. He would strike his head with the rock, and his head would be smashed, and the stone would roll off in that direction. He would go after it and bring it back, and by the time he came back to him, his head would have become sound as it was before. Then he would do to him again the same as he had done the first time. I said to the two of them: Subhan Allah (Glory be to Allah)! What is this? The two of them said to me: Come along. So we went on and came to a man lying on his back, and there was another person standing with an iron hook. He would come to one side of his face and tear his jaw open to the back of his neck, then he would turn to the other side and do the same; and by the time he finished with it, the (first) side would have become sound as it was before. Then he would do to him again as he had done the first time. I said: Subhan Allah! What are these two? The two of them said to me: Come along. So we went on and came to a structure like an oven - the narrator said: I think he said - and we heard clamour and voices in it - he said - so we looked into it, and there were naked men and women in it, and a flame would reach them from beneath them; and when that flame reached them, they would cry out. I said to the two of them: Subhan Allah! Who are these people? The two of them said to me: Come along - he said - so we went on and came to a river - I think he said - that was red like blood. In that river a man was swimming, and on the bank of the river was another man who had gathered stones beside him. That swimmer would swim as far as he could swim, then come to the one who had gathered the stones beside him, and he would open his mouth for him, and that one would feed him a stone. Then he would go and swim as far as he could, then come back; and every time he came back, he would open his mouth for him and he would feed him a stone. I said to the two of them: What is this? The two of them said to me: Come along. So we went on and came to a man of most repulsive appearance, like the most repulsive appearance you could ever see in a man, and beside him was a fire which he was kindling and running around it - he said - I said to the two of them: What is this? The two of them said to me: Come along, come along. So we went on and came to a lush green meadow containing every kind of springtime growth, and in the middle of the meadow was a tall man; I could hardly see his head because of his height in the sky. Around the man were more children than I had ever seen, and the most beautiful - he said - I said to the two of them: Subhan Allah! What is this? And who are these? The two of them said to me: Come along. Then we reached a huge tree; I had never seen a tree bigger or more beautiful than it - he said - the two of them said to me: Climb it. So we climbed, and reached a city built of bricks of gold and bricks of silver. We came to the gate of the city and asked for it to be opened, and it was opened for us, and we entered it. There we were met by some men, half of whose form was as handsome as anything you could see, and half as ugly as anything you could see - he said - and the two of them said (to those men): Go and plunge into that river. And there was a river flowing across, as if its water were pure milk in its whiteness - he said - so they went and plunged into it, then came back to us with their ugliness gone, and they had attained the most beautiful form - he said - the two of them said to me: This is the Garden of Eden ('Adn), and this is your dwelling. My gaze rose upwards - he said - and there was a palace like a white cloud - he said - the two of them said: That is your dwelling. I said to the two of them: May Allah bless you both, leave me, let me enter it. The two of them said to me: Not now, but you will enter it (later) - he said - I said to the two of them: Since last night I have seen wonders; what is this that I have seen? - he said - the two of them said to me: We will tell you. As for the first man whom you came to, whose head was being smashed with the stone, he is the man who learns the Qur'an and then sleeps (neglectfully) through the obligatory prayer. As for the man whom you came to, whose jaw, eye and nostrils were being torn to the back of his neck, he is the man who goes out from his house and tells a lie that (spreads and) reaches the far corners of the world. As for the naked men and women who were in the structure like an oven, they are the adulterers and adulteresses. As for the man who was swimming in the river and being fed stones, he is the one who consumes usury (riba). As for the man of most repulsive appearance, he is Malik, the keeper of Hell. As for the man who was in the meadow, he is Ibrahim (peace be upon him). And as for the children around him, they are every child who is born upon the fitrah (natural disposition)." He said: Some of the Muslims said: O Messenger of Allah, and the children of the polytheists? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "And the children of the polytheists too. And as for the people half of whom was good and half ugly, they are people who mixed good deeds with bad ones, and Allah pardoned them."

Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Whenever the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) began the morning, he would say to his Companions: "Has any of you seen a dream?" He said: And one day he (peace and blessings be upon him) began the morning and said: "I saw (in a dream) as if two men came to me. They both said: 'Go on, go on.' So I went with them until they brought me to an old man whose head and beard were white, sorrowful and grieved. He had a fire with him which he was stoking and tending. I said: 'May Allah bless you both, who is this old man? And what is this fire?' They both said to me: 'Go on, go on.' So I went with them until they brought me to a man, and there was another man standing over his head with an iron hook in his hand, and he was tearing his mouth to the back of his neck, and his nostril to the back of his neck, and his eye to the back of his neck. Then he would do the same to the other side, and no sooner had he finished with it than that (first) side had become sound again as it was before. I said: 'May Allah bless you both, what are these two men?' They both said to me: 'Go on, go on.' So I went with them until they brought me to a man lying on his back, and there was another man standing over his head with a rock in his hand, and he was smashing his head with it. Then the stone would roll away to some place, and he would go after it and bring it back, and by the time he returned to his companion, his head had become sound again as it was before, and he would do the same as he had done before. I said: 'May Allah bless you both, what are these two?' They both said: 'Go on, go on.' So I went with them until they brought me to something like a pond, and there was a man swimming in it, and another man standing at the edge of the pond with a rock in his hand. The swimmer would come and open his mouth for him, and he would feed him that stone. I said: 'May Allah bless you both, what are these two?' They both said to me: 'Go on, go on.' So I went with them until they brought me to something like an oven, and there were men and women in it, and a flame would come up to them from beneath them, and they would cry out. I said: 'May Allah bless you both, who are these people?' They both said to me: 'Go on, go on.' So I went with them until they brought me to a white land, as if it were silver, and in it was every kind of spring blossom. In it was a man whose head and beard were white, the most handsome of men you could ever see, and he had children with him whom he was gathering together and looking after. I said: 'May Allah bless you both, who is this old man? And who are these children?' They both said to me: 'Go on, go on.' So I went with them until they brought me to a white land, as if it were silver, and in it was a flowing river. Some people would come, half of their bodies in the finest form you could see, and half of their bodies in the ugliest form you could see. They would enter that river as if they had been commanded to, and they would come out of it as if they had been anointed with oil. I said: 'May Allah bless you both, who are these?' They both said: 'Go on, go on.' So I went with them until they brought me to Sidrat al-Muntaha (the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary), and it is the Garden of Eden, and that is your abode. I said: 'May Allah bless you both, leave me, let me enter it.' They both said: 'No, but you will enter it (later).' I said: 'May Allah bless you both, I have seen wonders since tonight.' They both said: 'We will tell you: As for the one with the white head and beard whom you saw (the old man), that is Malik, the keeper of Hell. As for the one whom you saw having his mouth torn to the back of his neck and his nostril to the back of his neck, that is a man who leaves his house and tells a lie, and it (the lie) spreads to the far horizons. As for the one whom you saw having his head smashed, and then left like a loaf of bread, that is the man who spreads tales (slander). As for the one whom you saw in the pond being fed a stone, that is the man who consumes the wealth of the orphan. As for those whom you saw in the thing like an oven, they are the adulterers and adulteresses. As for the one with the white head and beard whom you saw (the second old man), that is Ibrahim, the Friend of Allah, and the children whom you saw are the children of the Muslims, and every child is born upon the fitrah (natural disposition). As for those whom you saw with half of their bodies in the finest form and half in the ugliest form, they are people who did both good and bad deeds, and Allah forgave them.'"

Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) began the morning, he would say: "Has any of you seen a dream?" Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) would interpret it, until one day he (peace and blessings be upon him) began the morning and said: "Has any of you seen a dream?" The people remained silent, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "But I saw in a dream: two men came to me, and they both said to me: 'Go on.' So I passed with them by a man who had a rock in his hand. He was striking a man's head with it and scattering his brain, then the rock would return to his hand and his head would become as it was before - he said - so I said: 'What is this?' They both said: 'Go on.' So I passed with them by a man who had an iron hook in his hand, with which he was tearing a man's jaw, until when he reached its farthest end he would start on the other jaw, and this first jaw would become as it was before. I said: 'What is this?' They both said to me: 'Go on.' So I passed with them by a man who was in a river of blood, and (the blood) had reached his mouth, and on the bank of the river was a man kindling a fire in which there were stones. Whenever he (the man in the river of blood) wanted to come out, he would take a stone from it and throw it into his mouth, and he would go back. I said: 'What is this?' They both said to me: 'Go on.' So I passed with them by a house whose lower part was narrower than its upper part. In it were some people who were naked, and a fire would be kindled beneath them. Whenever the fire was kindled they would cry out, and when it was extinguished they would become quiet. I said: 'What is this?' They both said to me: 'Go on.' So I passed with them by a tree beneath which a man was kindling a fire and tending it; whenever it scattered he would gather it again. I said: 'What is this?' They both said to me: 'Go on.' Until they both brought me to the middle of the tree, and there were beautiful dwellings. I said: 'What is this?' They both said to me: 'Go on.' So they both took me to the upper part of the tree, and there were dwellings even better than those, and there were three upper chambers. I said: 'What is this?' They both said: 'Wait a moment. (Now listen:) The man who had a rock in his hand and was striking the other man's head with it, they are those who sleep (heedlessly) through the prayer - and Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: This is the one who was given knowledge, and he used to be awakened for it - and the man whom you saw with a hook in his hand with which he was tearing a man's jaw, they are those who spread tales (slander). And the man whom you saw in the river of blood, they are the consumers of usury (riba). And the (house) which you saw whose lower part was narrower than its upper part, with naked people in it, they are the adulterers of this Ummah, and they will remain like that until the Day of Resurrection. And the man whom you saw beneath the tree kindling the fire and tending it, that is Malik, the keeper of the Fire. And the dwellings which you saw in the middle of the tree are the dwellings of the believers in general, and these (upper ones) are the dwellings of the prophets, the truthful (siddiqin) and the martyrs, and this upper chamber is for you. And I am Jibril, and this is Mika'il.'"

Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: One day the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned towards us - and it was his (peace and blessings be upon him) habit that when he had finished praying he would turn his face towards us - and he said: "Did any of you see a dream last night?" If any of us had seen a dream, he would relate it to him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) would say about it whatever Allah willed. One day he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked us: "Has any of you seen a dream?" We said: No. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "But I saw that two men came to me. They took hold of my hand and brought me out to a level land or an open plain. I passed by a man, and another man was standing over his head with an iron hook in his hand, which he would put into this jaw of his (the lying man) and tear it until it reached the back of his neck. Then he would do the same with his other jaw, and this (first) jaw would heal again, and he would return and do the same to it. I said: 'What is this?' They both said: 'Go on.' So we went on until we came to a man lying on his back, and another man was standing over his head with a rock or a stone, crushing his head with it. The stone would roll away, and he would go after it to pick it up, and by the time he returned to him his head had healed as it was before, so he would strike him again; he kept doing that to him. I said: 'What is this?' They both said: 'Go on.' So we went on until we reached a house built like an oven, its top narrow and its bottom wide, with a fire being kindled beneath it, and in it were naked men and women. When the fire was kindled beneath it they would rise up until they almost came out of it, and when it was put out they would go back down into it. I said: 'What is this?' They both said: 'Go on.' So we went on until we came to a river of blood, in the middle of which a man was standing, and another man had stones in front of him. He would throw stones at the man in the river; whenever he wanted to come out of it, he would throw a stone into his mouth and send him back to where he was. I said: 'What is this?' They both said: 'Go on.' So we went on until we reached a red meadow in which there was a huge tree. At its base was an old man surrounded by children and women, and near the tree was a man with a fire in front of him which he was kindling and stoking. I asked them both, and they said: 'Go on.' So we went on until we reached the tree, and they brought me into a house; I had never seen a house more beautiful than it. In it were old men, young men, children and women. Then they both climbed the tree and brought me into another house, which was even more beautiful and better than the first; in it were old men and young men. I said to them both: 'You have taken me around since tonight and have been kind to me, so now tell me about what I saw.' They both said: 'Yes. As for the first man whom you saw, he is a liar who used to tell a lie, and it would be carried from him until it reached the far horizons, so what you saw will continue to be done to him until the Day of Resurrection. As for the man whose head was being crushed, he is a man whom Allah taught the Qur'an, but he slept (heedless of it) at night and did not act upon what is in it during the day, so what you saw will continue to be done to him until the Day of Resurrection. As for those whom you saw in the house, they are the adulterers of this Ummah. As for the one whom you saw in the river of blood, he is the consumer of usury (riba). As for the old man whom you saw at the base of the tree, that is Ibrahim (peace be upon him), and the children whom you saw are the offspring of the people. As for the fire which you saw and the man who was kindling it, that is the Fire, and he is the keeper of Hell. As for the first house which you entered, it is the house of Aishah, the Mother of the Believers (may Allah be pleased with her), and this (second) one is the house of the martyrs. And I am Jibril, and this is Mika'il.' I said to them both: 'Tell me, where is my abode?' They both said: 'Raise your head.' So I raised my head, and there above me was (a palace) like a cloud. They both said: 'That is your abode.' I said: 'Leave me, let me enter my abode.' They both said: 'There still remains for you some work which you have not yet completed; if you had completed it, you would have entered your abode.'"
